A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
Genre : Fantasy, Romance
Series : A Court of Thorns and Roses, book 3

About the Book  :

She has left the Night Court – and her High Lord – and is playing a deadly game of deceit. In the Spring Court, Tamlin is making deals with the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees, and Feyre is determined to uncover his plans. But to do so she must weave a web of lies, and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As mighty armies grapple for power, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords – and hunt for allies in unexpected places.

I have come to the conclusion that I just don’t know how to review Sarah J. Maas’ books. I was thinking back to my review of ACOTAR, where I mentioned that I usually have mixed feelings towards her book, and it’s still the case here : I read the more negative reviews of her books and can agree with a lot of the points being made, but then I read the positive reviews, and I agree too. I can see both sides of it, really.

But I’ve also realized another thing : I tend to turn to her books when I’m feeling anxious/stressed/sad and need something to take my mind off things – and her books always, without fault, do the trick.

The thing is, Sarah J. Maas delivers pure entertainment. A Court of Wings and Ruin is 700 pages long, yet I never felt bored. Did I feel like it could have been a bit shorter, a bit less meandering at times? Yes, a little bit. But I was still having a good time reading it. I was constantly thinking about it wondering what would happen next and looking forward to reading the next chapter.

Even though the second book in the series is my favorite, I really enjoyed how this part of the story concluded. There were twists, lots of action, some romance, some very emotional moments, everything. The final scenes were epic and very cinematographic, exactly what this arc of the story deserved. Though I will say that, for me, the first 150 pages of the book were the most stressful part. Tamlin just makes me physically anxious, ever since the second book. The less I see him the better!

All in all, I had a good time reading this one, and I’m really looking forward to reading Nesta’s story (and Cassian, but I have a soft spot for Nesta). At the time of writing this, A Court of Silver Flames has arrived home and I’m still trying to decider whether I want to read it right away or wait and catch my breath a little!
