Thoughts on : The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine
The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine
Genre : Thriller
Stand alone
About the Book :
Amber Patterson is fed up. She’s tired of being a nobody. She deserves more—a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted.
*
To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne—a socialite and philanthropist—and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale.
*
Amber’s envy could eat her alive . . . if she didn’t have a plan. Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life—the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her. Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, traveling with the Parrishes and their lovely young daughters, and growing closer to Jackson. But a skeleton from her past may undermine everything that Amber has worked towards, and if it is discovered, her well-laid plan may fall to pieces.
My Thoughts :
My Goodreads review for this one simply says :
I hated everyone but I was quite entertained.
That’s quite an appropriate summary for how I felt, but I’ll try to be a bit more eloquent here today!
Amber has to be, without a doubt, one of the most despicable characters I’ve ever met in fiction. I can’t even think of one redeemable quality about her. She wasn’t uniquely clever, had no sense of humor, nor did she have a tragic past that would explain who she is and have you root for her. Nothing. She’s envious and mean and cunning, super snarky about everything, absolutely unpleasant. Which is why I completely understand why many readers disliked this book, since we follow Amber for most of it.
I was still somewhat entertained though. Having read the summary, I knew something else was coming, and I couldn’t wait for it. I guessed what and how it would be, but it was still immensely satisfying when everything was revealed and concluded.
I did have one big problem with the book though, and no, it wasn’t Amber herself, but it’s hard to get into without spoilers. Instead, I’ll direct you to this review of the book by Emily May on Goodreads, who echoes my thoughts in her spoiler section. I did enjoy the book more than she did (she hated it, I thought it was okay), but I strongly agree with her regarding “deserved punishment”.
While I did enjoy The Last Mrs. Parrish, I would recommend it with caution. Give it a try if you want to read about perfectly despicable characters and over the top drama, with a few twists here and there.
Your Goodreads synopsis makes me want to read this book!
Haha! Well that’s good! 🙂
