Pages : 343
Genre : YA, Fantasy
Series : Harry Potter
My Rating : 3.5/5

About the Book  :

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

My Thoughts :

Oh, Cursed Child, what to say about you?

I went in with low expectations, I’ll admit. Don’t get me wrong, I was excited to be back into the Wizarding World, but the reviews I’d seen were so negative!

And I sort of liked it, much more than I expected. I didn’t completely loved it : the characters felt different (not just because of aging, but their voices in general), many scenes felt a little like “been there, done that”, the plot was a bit far-fetched and did seem to contradict the original books (it’s been a while though, so I could be wrong). There’s a few more things, but mostly, that’s what bothered me.

But, all of these things aside, I had a great time. I felt the script did a great job of capturing the magic and, most of all, the nostalgia! Oh, the nostalgia! All I wanted to do after reading it was to reread or rewatch the whole series. And that, I think, was what I had hoped for. To jump into this magical world and be amazed again. On top of that, I absolutely loved Albus and Scorpius and their friendship. I would have loved to read more about the both of them.

I am sure this looks magical on stage. I can only imagine how some of these scenes were visually created! I certainly hope I get to see it one day.

All in all, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was a lot of fun. I don’t consider it to be the “8th book” of the series, really. It’s something different bringing us a little more magic. And who can say no to magic? 🙂

  1. I think it was the departure from what happened in the original books (like the changes in dialogue and such) that really bothered me. I liked it much better when it left the old books and became it’s own story.

  2. I haven’t picked it up because I have low expectations so maybe I’ll like it too.
