please remain calmPlease Remain Calm by Courtney Summers
Pages : 96
Genre : YA, Horror
Series : This is Not a Test, book 2
My Rating : 4.5/5

About the Book  :

Rhys and Sloane are headed for a safe haven when they get separated along the way.

Rhys is determined to reunite with Sloane until he discovers people who might need him more–people who offer him the closest he’ll get to everything he’s lost, if they can just hold on long enough. Rhys thinks he has what it takes to survive and find Sloane, but in a world overrun by the dead, there are no guarantees and the next leg of his journey will test him in unimaginable ways…

My Thoughts :

Longer ago than I thought it was, I read Courtney Summers’ This is Not a Test and absolutely enjoyed it. I loved how Courtney Summers wrote a zombie story that wasn’t about the gore, with a lot of depth and complexity – which her writing always has.

Which makes it really interesting that this (too) short sequel is more of a traditional zombie story. With Rhys and Sloane on the run, we get to experience more of the constant fear the characters must feel (and so, more of the typical zombie-gore!). It’s less about their internal struggles and past hardships, and more about the right-now urgency.

And it’s good. Like really, really good. Rhys and Sloane are so human; complex and imperfect. I was immediately drawn back to them, and I felt for them; I was scared and glued to the page, I just had to find out how their adventure would end. I loved where the story took me, even in its darkest parts.

And when I reached the last page, I just didn’t want it to be over yet! Because of how things were left, because of how quickly Courtney Summers had mee feel for the characters, because of how attached to them I was – even the newer ones. There’s certainly an opening for more in the series – and I sure hope we will see a third part in the future!

If you’ve read This is Not a Test, then this creepy, scary sequel is a must; it’s also written well enough that you can enjoy it without having read the original book. If zombies are your thing, it’s worth a try!
