Top Ten Tuesday – Top Ten Books I’ve Read So Far This Year
Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week is posted a new Top Ten list idea that all bloggers are welcome to discuss.
What? It’s already June, you say? Almost half through 2014, really? My, my; I guess now is the perfect moment to look through the past months and find out which books left the strongest impression on me! Interestingly, 3 of this books were also on last week’s Top Ten; I can’t help it, when I love a book, I have to mention it as much as I can!
Here we go, with links to reviews or Goodreads :
1 – Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn – Weird horror and surprising twists! A great surprise from the YA category built upon good writing.
2 – Paper Towns by John Green – John Green and a road trip. Does anything more need to be said?
3 – Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – Love and college and friends and family; this one wraps up cute and heartfelt into simple but effective writing.
4 – Fun Home – A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel – There would be more than one graphic novel in my Top Ten if I had considered the ones I read in French (hello, Guy Delisle!), but I am definitely glad this is the one I could add. I don’t think I have read a graphic novel with such literary writing before, and I really loved it.
5 – The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion – This was awesome and fun and different – and I am too excited to say more because I just discovered there would be a sequel coming this year!
6 – The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan – Heartbreaking, creative, beautifully written with a certain simplicity, too. One more reason to love David Levithan.
7 – The Martian by Andy Weir – Mars has never been so exciting! The narration has a bit of humor to it but the danger feels real; a one-of-a-kind adventure!
8 – Joyland by Stephen King – This is a more nostalgic and mysterious Stephen King; I love his horror but sometimes, it’s good to read something a bit more mild, especially with it’s done with so much heart.
9 – The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – I was really blown away, and I did not expect it. A very original narration, beautiful writing, and filled with both hope and grief. There’s no other book like it.
10 – The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johanson – I’m just finishing this and writing my review for this one, and it is one great piece of fantasy! It’s really more top five than top ten material, really.
So, 2014 has been good so far! Now I will keep my fingers crossed that the second half is as good if not better – any recommendation from your own “best of” appreciated! 😀

I like that cover of Lover’s Dictionary! I can’t wait to read The Martian. The Book Thief, Fangirl and Rosie are lovely. Hope the second half of your reading year is just as good!

I’ve been meaning to read Joyland – it sounds like a rainy weekend kind of book.
I’ve…um…read all of 21 books this year. Doing a top ten would be hard! But Fangirl would be one, definitely. 😀
I’ve only read one of those books. 🙁 The rest look great to me.
Fun Home is brilliant! I’ve never heard of The Lover’s Dictionary, but I’m a fan of David Levithan, so must check it out!

Wonderful list. I love John Green and Rainbow Rowell and remember being very amused by Fun Home. The Lover’s Dictionary has been on my TBR list for quite a while now. Great list — here’s mine
