Filling the Shelf – 136

Filling the Shelf simply is Mailbox Monday, but with a title that suits my blog! If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, click away! (but beware, visiting other mailboxes will probably add to your neverending wishlist!)

Happy Monday dear readers!

How have you been? I am guessing many of you have had as crazy weather as we have had here! Even though the calendar says spring, the streets full of snow scream winter. I was confused last week and I still am.

Interestingly, this also seems to transpire into my reading. For a while, I haven’t known what I felt like reading. I pick books and I get easily disinterested. Like the reading slump from last fall is still pushing its way through into 2014. But then this week, I picked one of the oldest books on my TBR shelf : The Book Thief. And I am loving it. So, so much. I am a bit past the 1/3 mark and I have been purposefully pacing myself. The prose, the story, everything so far is amazing. And I have been feeling like : this, this is what reading it about.

Among other good things in the week, I got for very little money these two books I had added long ago to my wishlist.

  1. Hi Kay,

Money is all relative, when we are talking books, jigsaw puzzles and knitting and crochet yarn. However, I too, tend to look for bargains when looking to fill my shelves of all three and tend to confine my spend to charity shops wherever possible. It salves my conscience a little, if I tell myself that I am helping others, whilst satisfying my own desires at the same time!

Enjoy both your new books, they sound great, although both are new authors to me.

    Have a great week,

    Yvonne

  2. Love a bargain! The Singles looks fun.
We’re experiencing similar issues with weather – but with heat! Still need the air conditioner on most days. I’m thinking of getting into lighter, summery books again – noir just isn’t working at the moment!

  3. Crazy weather here too 16 degrees this morning. Enjoy your new books Kay.

  4. Our weather has been up and down but thankfully has not included snow. Enjoy your new books!

  5. Happy reading

  6. Enjoy your new books! The Singles looks like a fun read. Thanks for visiting my blog, and have a great week.

  7. It’s hard. I went through that at the beginning of winter.

    Singles looks good.

    Happy reading!

  8. Isn’t the Book Thief amazing? Glad it’s helping you beat your reading slump. I like the look of both of your new books. Hope you enjoy!

  9. Yesterday most of our snow (except for a few plowed piles) was gone. This morning there’s at least an inch of fresh snow. Good news: We’ll be in the 50s in a few days. What a winter!!
I’m adding The Singles to my list. Hope you come out of your slump for good! Haven’t read The Book Thief yet but I hear it’s a wonderful book.

  10. No snow here, but it is freezing cold. I better be quiet, though, or we may get snow on top of the freezing temperatures. 🙂

Love the cover of THE SINGLES.

ENJOY your reading week and stay warm.

  11. I haven’t read The Book Thief yet, but now I want to!!

  12. I agree the weather has been confusing. Thank goodness we don’t have snow but this afternoon it was 72 and tomorrow morning is supposed to be 36. Weird.
You remind me I need to pull The Book Thief from my audio TBR.
Congrats on good deals for book on your wish list.
Hope you have a good week.
