Please feel free to skip through the words if you want to enjoy a real Wordless Wednesday experience; revisiting our trip in Paris makes it difficult to keep my fingers tied up!

The small apartment we rented for our three weeks stay in Paris was a corner away from Place des Vosges, yet Victor Hugo’s place, which I really wanted to see, was one of our very last stops. By that time, we were exhausted from constantly running from one museum to the other, and really loved the idea of visiting something that was this close to “our place”.

I’m not sure what I expected (I had only done very little research about it), but I was pleasantly surprised. The apartment visit itself is free if you skip the temporary exposition; it’s small but full of interesting info on Victor Hugo’s life, without being overwhelming. The decor though, clearly was from another time, and I loved it.

Flowers, flowers, flowers ; let’s cover the floor, the walls, and the ceilings with it!

It’s interesting how often, the simple things are what you remember the most. Our visit to Victor was short but so pleasant, so quiet compared to the constant movement of the popular museums. And enjoying a bit of the sun on the Place des Vosges’ grass was just the right conclusion.

  1. Very cool. And I bet it was nice to explore closer to “home.”

  2. Oh, I bet that was a fascinating place to visit!

  3. Gorgeous photography as always! I think it was nice that Victor Hugo’s home was so close to where you were staying in Paris and that you were able to explore an author’s dwelling. It’s always interesting to see how a person’s home/room since it usually reflects who they are as a person.

  4. I could get lost in these pics. Forgive me if I’ve said that already.

  5. How beautiful and interesting! Your Paris photos always have me drooling with envy. And how cool to rent an apartment for three weeks, versus staying in a hotel! Love that idea.

  6. Gah, my visit to Paris was soooo short back in 1999, a single day-and-a-half trip that my college group took during our six-week stay in Bourges. I barely saw anything, especially since at the time, the museum workers were all on strike. We were supposed to see the Louvre, but it was closed re: strike. On the other hand, a couple of friends and I got to see the Musee Rodin for free, because instead of closing it, the workers opened it free of charge during the strike. It was beautiful, both inside and outside. But in terms of art and literature, that was the ONLY thing I saw in Paris. The rest just involved a handful of touristy things that were crammed in together. One day, I need to go back…
