I did it!

I started a little late, I thought I would maybe reach 25 000 words. I had a few health hiccups, got discouraged a few times, but pushed myself through it all. And on the last day, almost on the eleventh hour, I finally did it : I won Nanowrimo with a few hundred words over 50 000 (50 439 to be precise)!

I don’t know how I could describe how I felt once it was over. Relief of course, because even when I push myself, I am a slow writer and a slow typer, even in French. Some people out there managed to write twice and thrice as I did! I admire them greatly, and they were a huge inspiration through it all.

I was also extremely excited and proud and I felt weirdly encouraged, too, like I hadn’t in a while. I used to write all the time. I always had a hundred story ideas going through my brain, and completed a few novels. I never did anything with them though, and then I started university, and all of my writing energy was spent on Serious Papers. Nanowrimo gave me just the kick I needed to start again, and believe I could actually do it. Yippee!

Now that I am done with it, it means I can come back to blogging. And that’s the second bonus I got from this whole experience : it gave me back some of the motivation I needed to step back into my blogging shoes. I am looking forward to writing reviews, reading reviews, leaving a few comments.

Glad to see you again!

Also, Audible had a great sale and I added two titles to my audiobook shelf!

  1. Congrats on your NaNoWriMo achievement! That’s spectacular!
Glad you picked up some deals in the sales – I was looking at some and man, they were awesome!

  2. Woo hoo! Way to go!

  3. Congrats! I admit – I *love* seeing people come in at the eleventh hour and still win. We had one woman in our SA group who was 20k words behind and had never won NaNo in the four years she’s participated, but we cheered her on and she won at 11:30 pm on the last night. 😀

  4. Huge congrats on hitting the 50K mark and winning NaNo — that is definitely a tough challenge, and you should be very proud!

  5. Wow, Kay, congratulations!!!

  6. I can relate to what you said about NaNoWriMo…I did it in 2010…and it was definitely a push, the whole way. But such a great feeling afterwards.

Enjoy your blogging again…and I want to read the Helter Skelter book. I saw a movie made for TV. The Manson family occupied our minds for years, I think. And I’ll never forget the night I heard about the Sharon Tate murder….

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  7. Hooray! Congrats on all your NaNo success! Glad that NaNo invigorated your writing and blogging juices.

And yay for Audible sales. I’ve heard Helter Skelter is a great audio. I read the book long ago. Trust Me I’m Lying also sounds intriguing. I’ve missed your color coordinated mailboxes 🙂

    Have a great week, Kay!

  8. Congrats on finishing!! I spent way too much at the Audible sale… oops. 🙂

  9. Congrats on finishing NaNo 🙂
Helter Skelter : The True Story of the Manson Murders sounds fascinating. Happy reading!
