This week, I chose two book that have some of the most intriguing premises I have read this year. At first I thought they felt a bit similar (two individuals living only one’s life) but they sound like they’ll be very different. I really, really hope these live up to my expectations!
What’s Left of Me by Kat Zhang
Summary from Goodreads :
Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t…
For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable–hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet…for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.

The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna
Summary from Goodreads :
Eva’s life is not her own. She is a creation, an abomination – an echo. Made by the Weavers as a copy of someone else, she is expected to replace a girl named Amarra, her ‘other’, if she ever died. Eva studies what Amarra does, what she eats, what it’s like to kiss her boyfriend, Ray. So when Amarra is killed in a car crash, Eva should be ready.
But fifteen years of studying never prepared her for this.
Now she must abandon everything she’s ever known – the guardians who raised her, the boy she’s forbidden to love – to move to India and convince the world that Amarra is still alive.
What is at the top of your wishlist right now?
Interesting that they both have characters named Eva.
I noticed the same thing 🙂 and they seem like interesting books, too!
Haha yes, I noticed too! For a moment when I wrote my post, I wondered if I had pick two different summaries of a same book!
I want the first one but this is my first time hearing of the second one.
What’s Left of Me sounds great – I really love the sound of it. It’s so creepy and moving at the same time! Great choices! 🙂
