Filling the Shelf – 47

Filling the Shelf is basically Mailbox Monday (this month hosted by At Home With Books) or In my Mailbox (created by The Story Siren ), but with a title that suits my blog 😀 If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, I invite you to visit those two awesome features!

Happy Monday everyone!

If the first month of 2012 is any sign, it seems my reading will be very YA oriented this year – which is surprising because, despite the appearances, I did get more adult books last year than YA. I thought maybe I was getting tired of the younger books, but I think it has a lot to do with my being back in school. When, for instance, you spend hours reading and analyzing a book on the representation of torture in art and media, it feels really good to then stick your nose in a novel where the main concerns are not as heavy.

This week I received two novels that I have seen on most of YA readers’ shelves last year. First in series, both will have sequels published this year.

Hourglass by Myra McEntire : First, great cover. Ghosts, mysteries. Goodreads has it tagged as “science-fiction – time travel”. Time travel is fun (in fiction it is, but sadly I can’t speak for the real thing, as I have yet to experience it!)

Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini : After getting burned on a certain YA novel inspired by Greek mythology last year, I was a bit hesitant about this one, but great reviews have convinced me to at least give it a try. Fingers crossed!

What did you add to your shelves recently? Have you read one of these two books?
