Filling the Shelf – 43

Filling the Shelf is basically Mailbox Monday (this month hosted by Let Them Read Books) or In my Mailbox (created by The Story Siren ), but with a title that suits my blog 😀 If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, I invite you to visit those two awesome features!

In the recent months, with my wallet on a diet, I have learned to be more patient for the books that I want (or so I want to believe!) One thing that is super exciting though, is to discover that books that I have been wanting to read for a little while, are on sale for only a few dollars as ebooks. And so, in the past couple weeks, it’s my virtual shelf I have been filling!

Austenland and The Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale : The first one has received very good reviews from most of my Goodreads friends, with a side of really negative ones, and I’m really curious to see where I’ll fall into this. The modern era girl finding herself back in Jane Austen’s time has been done a few times before, but I always enjoy those! And this one seems to do it in a fun way, by taking the main character to a resort that recreates the world of Austen, if I understood correctly.

As for The Actor and the Housewife, the idea just sounded like fun! See :

What if you were to meet the number-one person on your laminated list—you know, that list you joke about with your significant other about which five celebrities you’d be allowed to run off with if ever given the chance? And of course since it’ll never happen it doesn’t matter…

Haunting Violet by Alyzandra Harvey : I’ve read one book of Harvey’s vampire series and thought it was okay, but I read some really positive reviews of Haunting Violets that gave me hope I would like this better. I mean, ghosts? I like ghosts!

The Mark by Jen Nadol : Cassandra can tell when someone is about to die, and that’s about all I know about this novel! I wasn’t planning on reading it until I read Amanda’s review of it. And you know I love a good paranormal-related story, so I wasn’t too difficult to convince!

Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore : I remember the publication of Magic Under Glass mostly for the uproar it caused because of its original cover. I chose at the time to wait to read it so that I could get the new cover but also judge the story fairly. And I like that new cover 🙂

In a Heartbeat by Loretta Ellsworth : A girl receives a heart transplant and starts dreaming of things she never thought about before, leading her to ask questions about who her donor was. I haven’t read a lot about this one, but I remember being intrigued by it before it was published, so the time has come!

What did you add to your shelves recently? Have you read one of these two books?
