I really enjoyed Maggie Stiefvater’s werewolves series, The Wolves of Mercy Fall, and her new book has such an intriguing premise! I have to find out whether it works for me, or not.

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson

Summary from Goodreads :

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn’t given her much of a chance. So she enters the competition — the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.

What is at the top of your wishlist right now?

  1. I’ve read fabulous reviews of that book!

  2. Me too!

  3. I haven’t heard of the book but it looks intriguing. I skipped last week because I didn’t have any new wish list books, nor had I finished reading any wish list books. Please come see what I’m wishing for this week.

  4. I picked up the book solely on the fact that Maggie Stiefvater was the author, since I enjoyed her other series as well. I didn’t regret it! I can honestly say The Scorpio Races stuck with me for a really long time. Great writing, as usual, and I loved not only the human characters, Puck and Sean, but some of the horses as well. They really became their own characters and it was just a really beautiful book. Definitely recommend it!

  5. This one is on my wishlist as well! I love Maggie’s books and her writing style. Great pick! 🙂

  6. I tried listening to Shiver on audio, and for some reason, it just didn’t work for me. It might have been the narrators, who sounded a little unprofessional, but I ended up giving it up about halfway through 🙁

I am going to be trying again, but in print this time!

    Good choice for today!

  7. I am very curious about this book, too.

  8. I’ve seen this around but had no idea what it was about. I love the cover though I don’t know if I’ll ever pick it up.

  9. Oh my gosh I LOVED this one, one of my favorite reads of the year. I’m partial to horses though, so this one really got to me:) Can’t wait to see what you think of it!
