This or That? (4)

Once more I appeal to you judgement to help me decide on a next read!

This time around I picked a bunch of YA novels I was very excited about upon receiving, but who ended up waiting on my shelves to receive some love.

The Selection :

Abandon by Meg Cabot : This take on Persephone by an author I usually enjoyed hasn’t received the warmest welcome, but I’m optimistic that it will be a better fit for me than The Goddess Test.

Wither by Lauren DeStefano : A dystopian novel where human longevity is around 25 years old and young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamy. I haven’t had much luck with YA dystopias this year, so hopefully this one will go better?

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand : This story of an half-angel girl has received some great reviews. Not only that, but I have often seen it recommended in reviews of other books with angels. It seems to be a bit different from the trend from what I understood, which is always good.

Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes : A story of a girl raised by a werewolves pack (you’d never guess by the title!). I love werewolves, even more than vampires these days, and this one intrigues me.

Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly : About a young girl who has the ability to see into the future and people’s dreams. She doesn’t know where her powers come from, but I’m guessing it has something to do with angels. Just a hunch! It also received some positive reviews.

So, what do you think? You can answer by the poll and, if you have any thoughts to share on the books (either because you’ve read one or want to know more about another, or anything really!), you can always comment below 🙂

  1. I vote for Wither! I vote against Abandon if such a thing is possible. 🙂

    • While the poll doesn’t allow it, I’ll take note of it! 🙂 Though I’ll have to read it at some point. Or at least give it a try!

  2. I haven’t read any of them, but I voted anyway.

  3. I too voted for Wither. I would’ve voted against Angel Burn. Really didn’t love that one! Hope you enjoy whatever book ends up winning!!!

  4. I vote Unearthly.

  5. I loved Wither, and that’s what I chose for the poll. It was a really interesting book and had some really great scenes. It was so haunting and scary too! I hope you choose that one! Have a great reading Sunday!

  6. I haven’t read any of these books before, but they all look good.

  7. I most sincerely recommend Unearthly. Wither is okay but you will be very disappointed if you’ve read The Hand Maid’s Tale because well, comparisons will be obvious and… Abandon drove me nuts. And not in a good way. Angel Burn is okay. I wouldn’t gush about it. Raised by wolves, I really liked. It was different. But it was Unearthly that was amazing. One of the very few angel YA novels that I actually like.

    • I haven’t read The Hand Maid’s Tale but it’s in fact on my TBR pile. Maybe I should read that one first?

  8. Oh wow I haven’t heard of any of these except for Wither, which I very nearly hated! (I’m also annoyed that the publishers are promoting it as dystopian – it’s not, it’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi! Or Speculative fiction. I had a big rant about it a few months ago on my blog! Yeah I know no one cares but me 🙁 !)

I would vote for any of the others ’cause I want to know what they’re like and whether they’re worth reading! I’m going to vote for Raised by Wolves because it’s not about angels! Too many angel books about lately it seems. I got halfway through Halo and stopped out of boredom. Oh dear I am griping today aren’t I?!

    • “Dystopia” seems to be a keyword this year, and I have been a little annoyed to see it applied to any book set in a futuristic setting. But it looks like Wither is the winner so we’ll soon find out if I fall into the love or hate camp!

Raised by Wolves will probably be the next one I read, then Unearthly. I’m a bit unsure about angels too; like you, I just couldn’t finish Halo!

      • I’m relieved to hear I wasn’t the only one who struggled with it! I should try to finish it but it’s hard to pick up a book that was sucking when there are so many more exciting books to choose from!

  9. Ohhh look at all of those gorgeous new hardbacks!!
