Top Ten Tuesday – Books I Want to Reread

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created here by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week is posted a new Top Ten list idea that all bloggers are welcome to discuss. 🙂

It’s a shame that I am close to a day late to participate in my first Top Ten Tuesday! It’s a feature that I always have fun reading on other blogs but have never taken the time to join. Since I had been working on a blog post about books I want to reread, this week’s Top Ten couldn’t have come at a better time!

Book I Want to Reread :

1 – Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling : Of course, this probably isn’t a surprise. I haven’t taken the time to read everyone’s list yet, but I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one wanting to relive this fabulous, magical trip! There are countless nights of reading in those seven volumes that I would love to experience again. Knowing now how this ends, I am sure my perception of the novels would be very different.

2 – His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman : Almost the only thing I remember from this trilogy is that I cried so much at the end, I couldn’t see the words anymore. But this was something like ten years ago, so I have no idea how I would react this time around. I also only read the French translation, so it would be fun to read it in its original version!

3 – The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath : This book almost shook me out of my little shoes. It’s a book I would have loved to read when I was around 17 or 18, because I would have connected so strongly with it. Reading it a few years ago was still a strong experience, maybe even more so.

4 – Never Let me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro : Reading Never Let me Go was a very peculiar experience, as I didn’t like the book that much while reading it. Later though, thinking back about it more and more, I realized that I had appreciated way more than then writing itself. The copy I read being from the library, I went and bought my own copy.

5 – Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery : When I was a kid, Anne was who I wanted to be when I would finally grow up. I read the complete series a few times, and the first couple books many more times. I watched the series on tv, the animated one as well as the one with “real people”, and it is also because of this series that I met one of my best friends. How could I not want to read it again?

6 – After You’d Gone by Maggie O’Farrell : This is without a doubt one of my favorite piece of contemporary fiction. After You’d Gone sealed my love for O’Farrell forever, and I have been a fan ever since. Again, this is one I read in French translation, so I would love to read it in its original version, especially since O’Farrell has amazing writing skills.

7 – The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins : I was so taken aback by the third book’s ending that I never got to reviewing it. Now that some time has passed and that the movie is about to come out, I would love to reread them and see how I feel about the whole thing (and maybe get to writing that review!)

8 – Germinal by Émile Zola : It’s been years since I read this French classic for school, and I remember being captivated by it. I’ve always loved Zola but it’s been years since he and I haven’t shared words.

9 – Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë : I read this as a teen and loved it, and I wonder if the me of now would still love it so? I like to think that I would.

10 – Outlander by Diana Gabaldon : I read almost every book of the series in French, so once more this is one I would love to reread in its original version. I don’t think I’ve loved these books as much some other people have, but I still enjoyed them a lot (I guess around a 4 stars rating, probably). I’m a sucker for historical fiction, especially when there’s a lot of detailing going on!

There are many more books, new favorites mostly, that I know I’ll want to reread at some point in my life, but not before I have put some more distance between this second reading and the first. Notes on a Scandal and The Virgin Suicides are some that come to mind.

What are some of the books you would like to reread?

  1. The Harry Potter books would be great re-reads!

    • They really would! After seeing the last movie I kept thinking that I just had to reread them all.

  2. A lot of these books are on my reread list as well. I haven’t read the O’Farrell, but have heard amazing things about it, so that’s on my list as well! Great choices today!

    • Oh, I would love to hear your thoughts on Maggie O’Farrell (once you’ve read it). “The Hand that First Held Mine” is a great one of hers, too.

  3. I only read the first in the Outlander series and thought it was too much romance and not enough historical fiction. Couldn’t bring myself to read any more. The O’Farrell one is one I’ve yet to read and am looking forward to finally picking it up!

  4. I love so many of the books you listed. I re-read the entire Harry Potter series this year before seeing the final movie and it was such a treat. I’d forgotten how many things I love about that series.
