Gone by Lisa McMann
Pages : 214
Genre : YA, Fantasy
Series : Dream Catcher, Book 3
My Rating :

What it’s about :

When a stranger steps into her life, Janie learns more than she could have expected about her dreaming abilities. Can she manage to deal with what she learns, and can she keep Cabel by her side while doing so?

From what I gathered from other readers’ reviews, this is kind of a love or hate book. True, it is a bit of a departure from the other two books : it’s bleak with a very thin layer of hope on top – or at least, it felt like it for most of the book.

Still, I felt like it was a strong conclusion for the series. McMann doesn’t shy away from difficult situations in her writing : this, combine with her style, makes the Dream Catcher series a very unique one in a time where fantasy series populate the shelves. This last chapter, focussed on the main character, is a bit slow in terms of action, but really fascinating for what we learn.

I really can’t say much more without spoiling it or spoiling the first two books. It’s really not a series where you would want to start with the second or third book. The books are small, quick reads but they pack a lot in very few words, so if you’re interested, it’s worth starting at the beginning.

Series Reading Order :

  1. Wake
  2. Fade
  3. Gone

  1. I’m glad to see the series ended well. I really want to give it a try.

  2. I was honestly just sort of middle of the road on this book, just like with the rest of the series. It was fun to read, but I doubt I’ll remember any of those books in a few years.

  3. It sounds like an interesting series.

  4. I’ve had Wake in my TBR pile forever — more than a year, at least! I definitely want to check these books out soon.

  5. Kathy : If you do I hope you enjoy it! It as a different atmosphere than most YA I’ve read.

Amanda : I see what you mean. It’s a bit different than most YA, but not enough to make it the most memorable. They’re really quick reads though!

Mary : It is! Interesting premise too!

Meg : Oh, I would be so curious to hear your thoughts on the series!
