Filling the Shelf – 23

Filling the Shelf is basically Mailbox Monday (created by The Printed Page, presently hosted by BermudaOnion) or In my Mailbox (created by The Story Siren ), but with a title that suits my blog 😀 If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, I invite you to visit those two awesome bloggers!

First let’s be honest : I’ve received a few more books than those shared in this post, but we’ve recently received new bookcases (major “hurrah!” on this!) and my books are a little all over the place. I’ll feature my new acquisitions in the next few weeks maybe, but here is what I got this week :

It wasn’t planned but there’s a theme of non-fiction there, all art-related except for the first one.

The Tiger seemed fascinating for me since I first saw it at the bookstore and I had to get it. From what I got, it’s about one man-eating Siberian tiger but it’s also about the species itself. I have a fascination with animals and endangered species,  so I put this one very close to the top of my TBR pile.

The 21 million Stuffed Shark is recommended reading for one of my classes, which is fine by me since I had been wanting it for a while. I’m fascinated by what decides an art piece’s worth, especially in contemporary art since I don’t always get it (I’m pretty sure I’m not alone on this one though!) I already read the first few pages and it’s surprisingly easy to get into.

Priceless : How I Went Undercover to Rescue the World’s Stolen Treasures, by the founder of the FBI Art Crime Team. Well the title certainly says it all! I’m really looking forward to reading this one.

Disarmed : the Story of the Venus de Milo is a book I discovered while doing research for a class. There are a lot of theories and stories around the discovery and celebrity of the Venus of Milo and I’m interested in the author’s view on those topics.

That’s my little box for this week! Have you read any of these? What was is your mailbox this week?
