Artsy Shelf – 21 – Sitting on the pier…

This week I am presenting you a summer theme, as it is so warm here that I really wish I could be sitting by the water, too. By the sea, by a lake or a river, it would be so refreshing!

It’s surprising to me how many similar covers like these there are. I love the idea though : it really has a summery feel, happy or nostalgic or sometimes both.

I have some clear favorites here, but for a change I’ll start the one I like the less. Goddess Games is interesting because it is a bit different from the others, the girl facing not the water but the wall of a pool. Sadly it doesn’t work for me, it’s missing a bit of subtlety.

My favorite, I think, is The Lost Summer. The image is serene, makes me think of summer but it also has a certain nostalgic feel (or maybe the nostalgia is only coming from me!) I love the colors, and how the title is placed nicely, visible but not with too strong a contrast.

The four other covers are more similar, and I could hardly tell which I prefer, but it would be between the first two. Maybe because I spent so much time in a similar place when I was younger, I really love those pictures!

Do these covers inspire summer feelings to you? Which one is your favorite?

  1. I do like the image of sitting on a pier – it brings back great memories for me.

  2. I just love piers

  3. great covers!
definitely perfect for summer. they look so peaceful and check out the great weather in ‘waiting for you’. it looks so bright and nice.

  4. The Lost Summer is my favourite of the bunch, too. It’s almost like she’s thinking ‘Huh. Where’d my summer go?’

  5. Kathy : Me too!

Juju : So do I. They’re the perfect spot for a moment of tranquility!

Toothy : It’s true, the weather looks perfect for just sitting there and having a great time!

Alita : Oh, I hadn’t seen it like this, but I love your interpretation!

  6. I agree the lost summer is by far the best, I haven’t read those books (all of them) but purely based on cover I would surely pick The Lost Summer

  7. The Six Rules of Maybe gets my vote! Great eye to catch all of these… I’ve seen several of them before, but I never made a “pier” connection.
