While in Paris – The Eiffel Tower

I promised I would share the details of our travel to Paris, and here we are! I chose to start with that little construction I’m sure no one of you has ever heard of, and it is the Eiffel Tower.

Built for the 1889 World Fair by Gustave Eiffel, the tower is no less than 324 meters high and one of the main attraction in Paris. The official website has a great PDF document you can take a look at if you’re interested to know all the details, like how many rivets the tower has (a lot), who was Eiffel and how were things around the time the tower was built.

We visited the tower on our first day, at night, just after circling the Seine on the “bateaux-mouches”. We reached the second floor just as the sun was setting, and the colors were just amazing. I barely had time to catch a picture of the view we had before night fell and everything went completely dark.

The view from up there is impressive. The city gets so small, filled with lights, and it’s exciting to look down and see all the major landmarks shine like little stars. You can recognize the Arc de Triomphe, the Invalides, Trocadero… all around the view is simply stunning (way more than my blurry pics could ever say!)

One thing you should know if you plan on visiting the tower one day : it’s cold. I mean, we should have thought of it : you’re high up in the air, unprotected from the wind… but we didn’t, and we froze. Since you have to wait in line quite a while between floors 2 and 3 (especially at night from what I heard), a warm sweater is a necessity!

After climbing on top, we crossed the bridge to Trocadero, where the beautiful fountains are, and took a look at the tower from afar, in the night. It was an amazing moment and the perfect way to begin our short trip : I really felt, at that moment, that our presence in Paris was a reality!

  1. It is beautiful. The name, it’s history, how it has somehow became a symbol of Paris.. How I would love to be there.

  2. I didn’t have time to go up the Eiffel tower when I was in Paris, but I would have loved to. These pictures are gorgeous!

  3. I’ve been to the Eiffel Tower lots of times and never went up in it since I’m terrified of heights. I always waited at the bottom while everyone else went up.

  4. I wish that I’d gotten to go up the Eiffel tower at dusk – the city’s so pretty at night! The one time I’ve been to Paris, the day we went up the Eiffel tower was gray and pretty foggy, so the view wasn’t nearly as nice.

  5. WOW! What a view! Thanks for sharing some pics!

  6. Gorgeous pictures and I agree, it’s freezing up there!

  7. Wow, the view up there must have been amazing in real life! Thanks for the tip, I’ll remember bring a sweater if I ever find myself in Paris 🙂

  8. Looks amazing! I would love to make it to Paris someday. Glad you had a wonderful time and thanks for sharing your photos! Gorgeous.
