The Artsy Shelf – 10 – Dogs!

Hey everyone! I feel like it’s been a little while since I did an Artsy Shelf feature, so here we are! Since we did Cats a little while ago, I figured dogs now deserved some of our attention; after all, aren’t they supposed to be man’s best friend?

Even though I like all of these covers, my favorite one is, without a doubt, Apologize, apologize! I think there is a perfect balance between the dogs playing in the water and the one sitting on the beach quietly. This cover makes me want to play in the water, pet a dog, sit on the beach and, also, read the book. It’s a successful cover for me!

Secrets to Happiness is absolutely cute, too! A perfect summer day, if you ask me! I also like the composition of The Art of Racing in the Rain; it makes the dog look more “pensive”, which isn’t a bad thing since, if I remember correctly, the story is narrated by a dog (somebody correct me if I’m wrong!)

Which one is your favorite? And don’t you just want to bring back home those Lost and Found puppy eyes?

  1. Bad Dogs Have More Fun looks like my dog. 😉

Secrets to Happiness is my favorite though.

  2. I want all of those dogs to come live with me, but I like the one on Bad Dogs Have More Fun the most.

  3. Awww… I like them all!

  4. Oh, thank you so much for this post! It gives me some great leads for my next Dog Days of Summer theme week. We read Secrets of Happiness, The Art of Racing in the Rain, and The Dogs of Babel this year. I’m in love with the cover for Lost and Found.

  5. Why am I not surprised that my picks were exactly the same as yours? Apologize, Apologize is my favourite design of the lot. Secrets to Happiness comes second. The Art of Racing in the Rain the third. 🙂

  6. Lost & Found is so cute! I will have to check out the book by John Grogan simply because I loved Marley & Me.

  7. I think Secrets to Happiness is my favourite, simply because the little dog on the cover looks so much like our little Rory!

  8. Definitely The Art of Racing in the Rain. I like the clean look. Although, puppies showing their tummies are always adorable.

  9. I just read Lost and Found a few weeks ago and I feel in love with the dog in the story!

  10. I can honestly admit that having a dog on the cover of a book can make me buy it – even if I have no idea what it’s about (the shame lol)

My favorite of these is Secrets To Happiness, that pose is one both my dogs have perfected and seeing them laying in a warm strip of grass so contentedly always makes me realize that every once in awhile humans should take a cue from the dogs, relax, enjoy a moment, throw worries to the side.

  11. Kay, I can feel my hand wanting to stretch out and rub all of their little faces!! OMG! I love dogs. I actually have Lost & Found but haven’t read it yet, and the others look/sound good… cover-wise, Ii think Apologize, Apologize is my favorite, too. With Forget Me Not next!

  12. Having just commented that I mostly disliked the cat covers you found recently, despite being a cat person, I must now confess that I feel the opposite about these dog covers. I’m not really a dog person, but I like all these covers!
