Sunday Salon : BBAW, University and Boookish things
Hello again everyone!
BBAW has come and gone so fast, I would think it was all a dream if it wasn’t for my feed reader, which has nearly exploded! I have yet to read the biggest part of what has been posted on everyone’s blogs this week, but I’ll try to do as much as I can today and Tuesday. I thought I would manage to read most of it yesterday, but then we got a surprise visit from friends that – which was extremely fun, no complaining here! But as much as I love them, it also means that I have to do all the laundry today instead of quietly relaxing. *Sighs*
Ironically though, despite not having the time to read blogs (or even write my own – only one review this week!!), I have read plenty this week. The summer had completely erased my memory, and I had forgotten how many pages I can read on the commute and in between my classes. Also, it seems I will have very few papers to write this semester, but many exams, which will mean a lot less “hard work” as I call it, and a lot more studying. I have a good memory, so that shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Books Read this Week :
- Pretties, by Scott Westerfeld
- Specials, by Scott Westerfeld
- Never Cry Werewolf, by Heather Davis
- Give up the Ghost, by Megan Crewe
Book Reviewed this Week :
- Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld
It’s a huge problem for me right now, reading more than I review! My pile of books to review is huge!!!! So, I’m thinking of creating a review challenge for myself, from October to the end of December, so that I can start 2010 on the right foot! Would anyone be wanting to join me? It wouldn’t be strict or anything!
This Week I also worked on a comic for the BBAW, and had a really interesting discussion on blog’s reviews’ summaries. What began as a simple question turned out to be a really interesting discussion for me, and I’ll be back with a summary of your answers later this week!
Today, when not doing laundry or reading blogs, I’ll be reading Extras, the last book in the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. It’s really good so far and I’ll miss the series terribly once I’m finished with this book! At least, I can still discover the author’s other works. I’ll probably read a few more pages of The Physic book of Deliverance Dane, too, which so far is excellent! I really have nothing to complain about when it comes to reading, this week.
Also, I have a good question for you : what is one of the great blogs you discovered during the BBAW? I’ll be trying to get a look at some new ones today, since I haven’t been as present as I wished during the event! It’s not too late though, is it? 🙂
I can’t believe you got so much reading done this week – my reading really took a hit! Two new great blogs I discovered are Dolce Bellezza and The Book Smugglers.
My problem is that I have a bunch of review written, but don’t want to post them all on the same day. I need to stop reading for a few days in order to catch up. That way I can post the ones I’ve already gotten done in a timely, orderly fashion, before any more reviews need to be written.
I have yet to decide which blogs I discovered during BBAW qualify as great for me. I’m sure they’re all great (I added about 20 to my GR), but I don’t know any of them well enough to figure out which I love to death yet. But if I hadn’t thought they had potential to become my favorites, I wouldn’t have added them! I tried to be really picky about what I added this time around.
I wish the blogger appreciation week had been held in the summer when I have a lot more time to visit blogs. I completely missed out and I really wanted to take a look at blogs. Oh well. Next year.
Kathy : I’m surprised too! Although I do wish I had had more time on the computer, to participate more into the BBAW!
Thanks for the suggestions! I already knew the Book Smugglers but I’ll be visiting the other one! 🙂
Amanda : I agree with you! For me, the challenge will consist in writing the reviews, just so they’re ready when I need them, but also so I can put the books back in the bookshelf and not have them waiting anymore. I don’t intend to start posting reviews twice a day, just to have them on “stand by”; this way, when I’m more busy (like this week) or not in the mood to write reviews, I’ll have a bunch ready! I will do it whether I’m alone or not, but it might be fun if other people want to join in and clear up part of their books to be reviewed! 🙂
Debnance : I fully agree! This week was my most busy at university since I went back, and I feel that, mostly, I missed on all the fun. I’ll keep fingers crossed for enxt year!
I am always behind on reviews! So, I started doing ‘Six Sentence Saturdays’ where I review the books that I didn’t necessarily love and don’t feel I need to write long posts about them. Hopefully that will help me catch-up on reviews eventually… I really hope so, anyways!
And, nope, not too late to discover BBAW blogs. That’s why I am here!
Your comic was awesome! My fave blog discovered was books, the universe, and everything.
Gosh, I discovered way too many brilliant blogs to name. 🙂
I really should check out these Westerfeld books – people online are going crazy for them and I feel a bit left out heheh.
I found *so* many great new (to me) blogs this week. This is one that I’ve been really enjoying: http://bookwormnation.blogspot.com/. They have insightful reviews for mostly YA books, a genre I’m starting to get into a bit more.
Laundry is the name of the game for me today too. Hopefully I can get some reading done in between loads.
I found a ton of great new blogs this week, too. And fell behind on reading everything on them!
Good luck with your work this semester!
I’d love to join in on your challenge. I need to get my review books cleaned up as well!!
Yours is one of the great blogs I discovered during BBAW 🙂
I keep hearing (from different sources) how great Uglies is.
I’d be with you on a loose challenge! As usual, my books are completely taking over my room once more. I got this great idea to go to this place — it’s really weird — they have books there… and you can borrow them! I think it’s called a library? I don’t know. I hadn’t been in one in about a decade, but it was really very exciting! LOL. I checked out one book, loved it and then really, really didn’t want to return it… it was painful! So not sure how that whole “book borrowing” thing is going to work for me, but I’m willing to give it a try!
I found a few great blogs during BBAW, but I think my favorite so far is Cheeky Reads — right up my alley! 🙂
I’m still trying to catch up from BBAW. Unfortunately, the week happened to coincide with a lot of stuff in my life like my residents moving in and school starting. Two biggies that i still haven’t gotten one hundred percent used to. This weekend is going to provide me with heaps of free time to catch up though: both with reading and commenting on other blogs and tending to my own, which i have horribly neglected.
