Sunday Salon : Pretty reading

The Sunday Salon.comAnother week has gone by, school is getting serious and my reading has definitely slowed down. Not dramatically, but I already feel it’s more difficult to make time to read. Fortunately the subway/bus ride to school and back home is close to an hour each way, so it gives me plenty of time to read and relax every day!

My reading this week has been great, though! Not that much in quantity, but more in quality.

Books I read this week :

  • The Summer I Turned Pretty, by Jenny Han
  • Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld
  • Buffy, Season 8 Volume 1, by Joss Whedon and Georges Jeanty

I thought it was funny this week, that I read The Summer I turned Pretty, just before I read Westerfeld’s dystopian Uglies, about a girl who’s about to becomme a Pretty! All of my three reads this week were great though, I can only hope this week will go as greatly.

Books I reviewed this week :

This week, I also joined The Countdown Challenge and I have a new giveaway for my copy of Evermore. If you haven’t read it yet, and love paranormal YA, come and participate!

This week, you’ll want to watch out for the BBAW. Yes, there will be awards given, but there will also be prizes, bloggers interviews, and SO many book blogs to discover!

Today, the weather is perfect for sitting calmly with a book. The sky is grey and heavy, and it will probably be raining at some point. I’ll be reading Pretties by Scott Westerfeld, the second book in the Uglies series. I had first decided I would pace myself with those, but when I finished reading the first one I just had to start right then with the next one.

What was the best book you’ve read this week? What are you reading today?

  1. I can’t wait to read your Uglies review. Personally, I like Pretties better than Uglies, but I loved one character a lot (Zane) so that sort of made the book for me. Some people find the language of the Pretties very annoying, though.

I’m in the middle of Evermore right now and so far I think I’m enjoying it much more than you did. I’m just hoping there isn’t a bit twist and I find out everyone’s a vampire or something. That’ll just ruin it.

    • I’m in the middle of Pretties and I love it!! I feel like I like it more than Uglies, but I think that a huge part of this is because I’m getting more comfortable with the setting, the technology, the language, etc. I don’t mind the Pretties language though; it is “annoying” in a way, but it suits them so well, it cracks me up more than anything! 🙂

I’m glad you’re enjoying Evermore. I didn’t hate it, it was really entertaining, but it left very little impression on me. Maybe one day I’ll read the next book. I’m not telling the twists though ; I’m looking forward to reading your review!

  2. Hi Kay.. an aside: I just think you’re going to love I Capture the Castle! Hope you get to it soon! 😀

  3. School! Ugh, I start next week and my end of the summer has been so busy that I’m already finding it difficult to find time to read. I am excited for BBAW, although I’m a little anxious and worried that I won’t have enough time to really participate in the festivities like I wanted. Hope you have a great week of school and reading and BBAW.

  4. My husband loved the Uglies series and got hooked on them too!

  5. You’ve had a great week with reading 🙂 I love that you’re reading Buffy. A few days ago I was desperately trying to find somewhere I could watch or download that series. I watched it religously as a teen and miss it. 😛

  6. Where do you live that the weather is gray? I’m jealous. I’m ready for our Florida long summer to ease up.

  7. Hey! I have an award for you over on my blog!

  8. I read Uglies and thought it was pretty good, but I never got around to reading Pretties. I’m kind of thinking maybe I should go ahead an pick that up.

  9. I have Uglies and Pretties somewhere on my shelves. I guess I better get on those soon! 🙂

  10. I totally understand about school cutting into your reading time. I started back to school (work) last week and can already see how hard it’s going to be trying to read 4 books a week, blogging, cooking, house chores, correcting papers, going to football games, running the boy from practice to home…….oh, how I love summer!!

  11. Claire : Oh, I hope too! It looks exactly like my type of book!

JusticeJennifer : I understand what you mean about time! I’m afraid I won’t have time to participate much either! I had only 4 classes the last two weeks, but this week I start my 2 other, which means a lot less free time.

Kathy : That’s so great you and your husband share your books like this! I think my Man might like those, two. Maybe I can convince him!

Ceri : Buffy, Season 8 was really great! I liked the show, too, although I watched only a few episodes here and then while it was airing. It’s only a couple years ago that I finally watched them all!

Juju : I live in Canada! And we usually get more cold than warm (although here in Montreal, it’s not that bad!)

    Kari : Thank you! 😀

Lola : It was good! I don’t know how you resisted picking up Pretties with such an ending though 😛

Heather : You should! They were a very good surprise for me. I’m glad I don’t have to wait between each books, too!

Staci : Oh yes, life does get in the way of reading doesn’t it? I’m already missing summer too – especially since I know that next summer I’ll have summer classes and work. *sigh*
