Sunday Salon : Back to School and Bookish stuff

The Sunday Salon.comTwo days from today, on September 1st, not only will Catching Fire be out in stores, I will also be back to university! I am both excited about and dreading this next semester. First because I need to take no less than 6 classes in order to finish my undergrad studies next year, and secondly because most of these classes are obligatory ones. I have no doubt I’ll love most of them in the end : I have fantastic professors! Here are the classes I’ll have this semester in approximate name translations :

  • Decorative Arts History
  • Art and Revolutions (1789-1871)
  • Reasearch
  • America and Arts
  • Italian Baroque
  • Introduction to Occidental Art

I also have to maintain my “A” average, so this probably mean that I’ll partly disappear from the blogogsphere in the upcoming months. Sad! I hope you won’t all forget about me! I’m sure I’ll find time to stop by your blogs though : it’s the perfect hobby for the student trying to avoid writing papers. πŸ˜›

On the blog subject, I added another comic this week. I think by now everyone has seen it, but I wanted to thank you all for your reactions!

On to books now!

This has been a very disappointing reading week (although a great week, since what kept me from reading were friends and family I was visiting!)

Books read this week :

  • Me, Penelope by Lisa Jahn-Clough
  • The Swan Kingdom by ZoΓ« Marriott

Books reviewed this week :

Today I’ll be reading Sucks to be me (which is one of the funniest books on vampires I have read in a while!), and I’ll probably be doing this slowly so that I can get right into Catching Fire on Tuesday! (insert fangirl shrilling here). The remaining time of my last 2 days before school will be spent shopping (I hate shopping!!!!), going around your blogs and doing nothing that requires a brain.

  1. I can’t wait for Catching Fire!!! I just hope they aren’t all sold out by the time the story opens on the 1st. I don’t know if they’re having a midnight release party or anything. I need to look into that…

Good luck with all your classes!

  2. Good luck with the new schedule πŸ™‚

  3. Ahhh! I’ve been waiting for Catching Fire forever (or so it seems). Tuesday, eh?

Best of luck with your schooling this year.

  4. Back to school already? You must be on the semester system. I’m on the quarter system and I don’t head back until September 21st. Still, I’m dreading and excited about going back to school too. I know I’ll end up liking my classes (I always do) but I’m going to miss the freedom of summer. School is all about routines and while they are great for productivity, they aren’t as fun as the freedom that you get with summer. Anyway, enjoy Catching Fire and your classes when you get back to school. I’ll be around to read whatever you have time to post!

  5. September 1st seems like a big day for quite a few books. I am afraid I haven’t caught the Hunger Games/Catching Fire bug yet, but it’s hard not to feel the excitement.

Good luck with your classes this semester! It sounds like you will be very busy. We understand if you aren’t able to blog much. School must take priority.

I hope you have a great day.

  6. Looks like you will have your hands full. Courses look tough but interesting. Have fun and enjoy (try not to stress yourself out)

  7. You’re taking a heavy load. Good luck!

  8. Amanda : There’s no big event for it here, so I’ll just go when the store opens, just before my first class of the semester! I wish they had a midnight event, but then I would probably spend the night reading, so maybe it’s better they don’t!

    Juju : Thank you! πŸ˜€

Debnance : I feel I’ve been waiting forever, too, even though I read The Hunger Games just a few months ago. Lucky for us, the wait is (almost) over!

Jennifer : Thank you! I wish you a good semester too, even though it’s still a little while away for you! Enjoy your last weeks of vacations! πŸ˜€

Literary Feline : It’s true! So many books I want are coming out in September, and I think half of them are on September 1. It will be crazy difficult to make a choice on what to buy!

Diane : Thank you! The good thing is that most of my classes this semester are first year classes I couldn’t take last year (when instead I had second year classes). So it will be tough, but not as tough as it could have been!

Kathy : Thanks so much! πŸ˜€

  9. Happy start of the semester – I know you’ll do brilliantly! And of course we understand if you need to take a break, and I’ll definitely be waiting and ready for when you triumphantly return!

  10. Your classes sound really cool πŸ™‚ I hope you have a great semester.

Sucks to be Me sounds so good – I can’t wait to see your review. πŸ˜€

  11. So nice to meet someone who hates shopping too!!! School starts Tuesday and I still haven’t gotten any new work clothes!

Sounds like your schedule will be demanding but fun and hey, that A has to stay that way so study hard, we won’t forget about you. How could we? πŸ™‚

  12. Wow, so many art classes! That looks like my dream schedule. Art and Revolutions sounds super interesting. What’s your textbook for that class?

    • I’m not sure about the textbook yet, since my first Monday classes are both on September 14th (so my first 2 weeks aren’t that busy compared to what they’ll be!). Chances are we’ll have a collection of excerpts and texts selected by the professor, that’s what they mostly do.
