Sunday Salon : On Stuff and Books

Posted by on July 26, 2009 2:54 pm in Book talk | 7 comments

The Sunday Salon.comIn the last week, I failed my resolution to post less stuff and more book reviews. Excluding the Sunday Salon, I’ve posted 8 times, for only 3 book reviews! At the same time, I do realise that book reviews are the posts that get the less reactions and comments. Is that so for everyone? What are your most popular posts?

This week, among other things I posted a new giveaway and a new comic! I also shared with you my discovery of a wonderful blog, Awful Library Books; take a look! And finally, I’ve also launched my new feature, Sound Alike! I have a long list of titles for this one, so we should have fun. πŸ˜‰

Let’s talk about reading now;

Books I read this week :

  • The Demon’s Lexicon, by Sarah Rees Brennan
  • Take me there, by Susane Colasanti
  • How to be a Canadian, by William and Ian Ferguson
  • The Awakening, by Kate Chopin

The Demon’s Lexicon is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It took me completely by surprise! There are no doubts it will be in Β my top 20 at the end of the year. Sadly I can’t say the same of The Awakening, which I really struggled through.

Books I reviewed this week :

Today I’ll finish reading the first tome of Vampire Diaries. I’ve already made it through part 1, and I’m in the middle of part 2. It’s good! It’s everything you would wait for in a YA vampire novel. Reading this is like taking a vacation in Fang-Land. It’s totally dark and light and fun.

After this, I’ll probably get into Nefertiti. I’ve read a few pages, but I would love to sit and take my time to read it. I think it got the most votes last week when I asked you help me decide what to read, and I love ancient history.

How is your Sunday going? What are you reading today?

  1. All my posts generally get the same amounts of comments, but I post mostly reviews. Except in rare cases, my only non-reviews are the SS post. I don’t participate in a lot of other things. The only posts where the comments go down is when I’m reviewing classics that not everyone has read, and even that sometimes goes higher than normal stuff. Probably my shorter posts, the ones where I don’t say very much, end up being the ones with less comments.

  2. I’m not sure which posts get the most reactions, but I’m always amazed at the reaction I get to a personal post.

  3. I’ve noticed that in the past my reviews received less comments than my meme ones but that’s to be expected. Lately they’ve been about the same. I am currently reading a YA book titled, After The Moment.

  4. I always find it interesting when people say that their non-review posts garner more comments. Except for Sunday Salon, this is the opposite for me. Makes me think I’m rather dull and boring. Wahhhhh! πŸ™‚

How to Be a Canadian sounds like way too much fun, eh? Hope you’re having a great weekend.

  5. I’m glad you are enjoying The Vampire Diaries. I loved the first four, and I’m going to start #5 one day soon πŸ™‚

I’m reading Mr Darcy, Vampyre at the moment. Its very good πŸ™‚

  6. My review posts get less comments too. Things have started to even out a bit more lately; I’m not sure if my reviews have gotten better or my personal/meme posts have grown more boring!
