Filling the Shelf – 2
In the spirit of In my Mailbox, here comes Filling the shelf. It’s the same thing, really, just with a name that suits my blog.
Here are the books that entered my home in the last 3 weeks (not counting borrowed books) :
Mostly speculative and historical fiction. I won Mistress of the Sun and I’m so glad I did! How I live now wasn’t something I was planning on buying on the day I bought it, but it was on sale and, mostly I love this cover. The illustration on the back is very nice. A similar thing goes for 3 willows : I had planned on waiting for a paperback, but it was 60% off. How was I supposed to just, let it there?
Grimspace I bought after reading a great review (Science-fiction is probably the only genre of speculative fiction I’m not drawn too, I always need some convincing). As for Ice song, I had noticed its pretty cover when doing my first Artsy Shelf feature, but it’s also a review that convinced me to give it a try. Same thing for The Demon’s Lexicon (which I ordered from the Book Depository, since I really don’t like the US cover!)
I knew I wanted Twilight of Avalon even before reading a review, based on the sole fact that the cover’s painting is by one of my favorite artists (if not THE favorite), Waterhouse. I can resist many pretty covers, but hardly one featuring some of his art. And finally, Heir of Sevenwaters, which is probably the book I am the most excited about. Juliet Marillier changed my reading life – but I’ll tell you more on that another day 😉
Have you read any of those? Which one should I read first?
This does not include books I have received but read since :
- Prey, by Rachel Vincent
- Obernewtyn, by Isobelle Carmody
- Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict, by Laurie Viera Rigler (currently reading)
- Blood Bound, by Patricia Briggs (currently reading)
What about you? Did you received any book you are really excited about in the last weeks?
I haven’t read any of them, but I’ve looked at 3 Willows several times. It keeps calling my name.
You should definitely read Twilight of Avalon first – it is FANTASTIC! I’m working on my review now, but it’s a five star in my book! I also loved Mistress of the Sun.
Looking forward to your reviews!
I won Mistress of the Sun, too. Enjoy your new books.
Thanks everyone!
Amy : 5 stars, wow! Maybe I’ll put it on top of the pile then 😀
I’ve read Mistress of the Sun and I really enjoyed that one. It seems lie you have a great selection to choose from so you should be good no matter what you pic out to start off with.
Grimspace looks kinda interesting — where did you read that review? Enjoy all your new books!
Too funny! I just got How I Live Now on Saturday, and I hadn’t planned on buying it, either. It was marked on clearance — the cover had a “mark” or something, but I could barely see it — and I just couldn’t leave the store without it… especially when I realized it was set in England (you know I’m a sucker for that!). Plus, you know, it’s written by a Meg. And I have an unwritten rule that I’ll support any and all Megs… in the hope that someday, they’ll buy my books right back! 🙂
I have 3 Willows at home, but haven’t started it yet. I was so excited to get it when it first came out — I even bought it in hardcover! — and somehow I just keep pushing it back and back. I should get around to that!
I haven’t read any of those but I do have How I live Now on my shelf to read. Happy reading.
oooh. Grimspace was one of my top reads from last year. I totally recommend that one! Also Heir to Sevenwaters – so good!
