Sunday Salon : Summer Blitz recap and more

The Sunday Salon.com Hi everyone! I thought I would finally join the Sunday Salon and use the occasion to do a little recap on my recent reading and blogging!

As you may know, I’ve joined the “Summer Reading Blitz” challenge (see my post here for more info), which is to read 30 books in 30 days. Madness! Surprisingly enough, right now, I’m not doing so bad! I’ve read 16 books so far, for a total of 3692 pages. This amounts to around 230 pages per book. Like I said, not so bad!

Today I’ve been trying to get through The Bone Garden. It’s an interesting book, but I’ve had a hard time getting really into it. I think it’s because it alternates between present and past a lot, while my first impression had been that it would be set in present time with brief flashbacks to the past. The book is still entertaining, and I’m beginning to really enjoy it instead of “pushing through”, which is good! It’s my second Gerritsen and I really like her style of writing and story.

I’m trying to plan my reading ahead of time a little, especially since I already began so many books this past week. Recently, my reading mood is up and down : I’m really good at beginning, but finishing? Huh, not so much.

Here’s a list of books I would like to get through this week :

  • Newes from the Dead, by Mary Hooper (I read the first 30 pages only yet)
  • Santa Olivia, by Jacqueline Carey (the Man is waiting for this one, so I have to hurry!)
  • Madapple, by Christina Meldrum (again, I only read the first 20 pages or so!)
  • A Northern Light, by Jennifer Donnelly

I’ve also received a few books, gifts or orders that I had long been waiting for. They are all books I’ve heard good things about or that I’ve been waiting for a while! I’m thinking I could read a few of those, too.

  • The Forest of Hands and Teeth, by Carrie Ryan
  • The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins
  • Warbreaker, by Brandon Sanderson
  • The Ghost Writer, by John Harwood

Have you read any of those? Any thoughts? Which should I begin with first? I’m really interested by The Ghost Writer by Harwood, but I don’t want to rush through it so maybe I’ll wait for July instead!
