This is, without a doubt, probably my most waited-for novel this year – especially now that I finally have my hands on Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children!
It’s true that historical fiction hasn’t been my main focus since I started blogging, but once upon a time, it was about all I read. France has always been one of my favorite places, even before we went last year, and the history there is so rich I could probably spend a lifetime just reading about it. Marie-Antoinette is without a doubt one of its most intriguing characters, but for me there’s also a connection that’s a touch more personal, as here era is what begins the period I am focusing on for my master’s degree.
Becoming Marie-Antoinette by Juliet Grey
Summary from Goodreads :
Why must it be me? I wondered. When I am so clearly inadequate to my destiny?
Raised alongside her numerous brothers and sisters by the formidable empress of Austria, ten-year-old Maria Antonia knew that her idyllic existence would one day be sacrificed to her mother’s political ambitions. What she never anticipated was that the day in question would come so soon.
Before she can journey from sunlit picnics with her sisters in Vienna to the glitter, glamour, and gossip of Versailles, Antonia must changeeverything about herself in order to be accepted as dauphine of France and the wife of the awkward teenage boy who will one day be Louis XVI. Yet nothing can prepare her for the ingenuity and influence it will take to become queen.
What is at the top of your wishlist right now?
I’d love to read that one too!
I love books like this. Have you read Phillipa Gregory books?
I have read only the one that was made into a movie, and I quite enjoyed it. I constantly add her books to my wishlist but haven’t read more of hers, yet 🙂
Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and this book looks like it would be an excellent choice for me. Thanks for spotlighting it here. It’s going on my list!

Becoming Marie Antionette sounds amazing, I’m going to go ahead and wishlist it right away. Love historical fiction, well, I’ve read a Philippa Gregory book which I quite liked and I adore history, and I’m always on the look out for decent, pre-1900s reads.
Thanks for stopping by, too! I just discovered your blog and added it to my feed reader after my visit. I’m happy to hear we have a love for historical fiction in common! 🙂
My featured wishlist is Rapunzel’s Daughters. Please come see what else is on my plate.
