Filling the Shelf – 27
Filling the Shelf is basically Mailbox Monday (this month hosted by MariReads) or In my Mailbox (created by The Story Siren ), but with a title that suits my blog 😀 If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, I invite you to visit those two awesome features!
Sadly for my wallet, being M.I.A. from the blogging community and having no time to read doesn’t mean I didn’t add more books to the shelf. Granted, there were fewer then there usually is, but it was still more than I had time to read. I need therapy.
Here are most of the latest additions, YA first, grownup books second :
Bumped by Megan McCafferty and Wither by Lauren DeStefano : two recent YA novels that explore awesome dystopian ideas. The first has a world where females over 18 are infertile, making the 16 years old ones interesting targets for reproduction. The second has humans dying really young, giving place to a world where young females are kidnapped and forced into a polygamous life for the sake of humanity. Both are very high on my TBR pile!
The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson deals with grieef after the unexpected death of a teen’s sister. It received glowing reviews from most bloggers I follow.
The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong is a book I had been waiting for and am extremely excited to finally have in my hands! I read The Darkest Power trilogy and really enjoyed it, so this new series developed in the same setting was a must read for me.
Skipping a beat by Sarah Pekkanen almost doesn’t need a presentation, since it has been praised my many readers already. I had been planning on reading Pekkanen’s previous novel, The Opposite of Me, for a while too. I can’t wait to read it and see if I enjoy it!
Claude and Camille by Stephanie Cowell, was on my wishlist from the first time I heard of it. It’s Claude Monet and Camille Doncieux; that in itself is enough to justify reading it!
To be Queen by Christy English, has also been on my wishlist for a while. I read The Queen’s Pawn last year and really enjoyed it. I love historical fiction and Eleanor of Aquitaine is a favorite of mine.
Cool Water by Dianne Warren is a book I discovered at the bookstore and was really curious about. It takes place in a tiny town in Saskatchewan, Canada, and there’s a camel named Antoinette. I’m pretty sure it is not an accurate description of the book itself, but the camel thing really got my attention.
Also, be aware that googling “cool water” for the book’s cover will mostly give you this :
But we are NOT complaining.
What did you add to your shelves recently? Have you read any of these?
I have claude and camille on my shelves…i should probably read it soon
Bumped and The Gathering are on my wishlist.
Enjoy your books and thanks for sharing!
I liked Skipping a Beat. Enjoy all the great looking books!
These look good. I’m looking forward to reading THE GATHERING too. I loved the first trilogy and hope this one is as good.
Ooh, Wither is on my wishlist! It would be hard not to score there after all the praise it’s been getting. I’ll be getting that one when I head to the US this summer to visit my parents.
I have a strange compulsion to google Cool Water now. 😉
Hummmmm…..Cool Water! Either one! LOL
To Be Queen is on my wish list. Hope you enjoy your new books!
Really enjoyed To Be Queen. Is that Sawyer from Lost in those Cool Water ads?
Yup, that is him all right! 🙂
Such a big pile of books. I like your second lot very much.
LOL – fun post this week. I’ve got Wither on my tbr pile and have skimmed it a bit… it sounds pretty interesting.
Here’s my Mailbox! ~ Wendi
I wouldn’t complain about the search results for “cool water” either! Enjoy your new books.
