Being away from reading and blogging didn’t stop me from shopping for books! In fact, I might have been drooling for new ones even more since I barely added some to the collection since January. Here are some I have had my eye on recently :
Enclave (Razorland, book 1) by Ann Aguirre
I haven’t read Aguirre’s Jax series, but I already read good things about Enclave, and the dystopian setting sounds right up my alley!
New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20’s. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

Girl Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen
I saw the movie many years ago, and have been wanting to read it ever since. I’m hoping to finally get to it soon!
In 1967, after a session with a psychiatrist she’d never seen before, eighteen-year-old Susanna Kaysen was put in a taxi and sent to McLean Hospital. She spent most of the next two years on the ward for teenage girls in a psychiatric hospital as renowned for its famous clientele Sylvia Plath, Robert Lowell, James Taylor, and Ray Charles as for its progressive methods of treating those who could afford its sanctuary.
Kaysen’s memoir encompasses horror and razor-edged perception while providing vivid portraits of her fellow patients and their keepers. It is a brilliant evocation of a “parallel universe” set within the kaleidoscopically shifting landscape of the late sixties. Girl, Interruptedis a clear-sighted, unflinching documnet that gives lasting and specific dimension to our definitions of sane and insane, mental illness and recovery.
