Filling the Shelf – 25

Filling the Shelf is basically Mailbox Monday (created by The Printed Page, presently hosted by Knitting and Sundries) or In my Mailbox (created by The Story Siren ), but with a title that suits my blog 😀 If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, I invite you to visit those two awesome bloggers!

I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I’ve done a “Filling the Shelf” post. Life has gotten incredibly busy lately, but of course, that doesn’t keep a reader from getting books! Those aren’t the only ones I got, but they are the most recent. I’ve been loosing interest in YA novels a bit recently, and though I still read plenty of those, I noticed that I brought more adult novels home lately.

Spellwright by Blake Charlton : A world where magic spells are created by writing, with a young dyslexic man as the hero. A fun premise, looking forward to reading it!

Nights of Villjamur by Mark Charan Newton : This fantasy novel seems to pack a lot in : a mysterious killer, a coming ice age, a daughter inheriting after her father, the emperor, takes his own life, a conspiracy… whew! I’ve also been following the author’s blog for a while, and I’ve enjoyed his writing, so I had to get the book.

Three by Ted Dekker : A thriller where a man receives mysterious calls, asking him to confess his “sin”, yet he doesn’t know what it is… So, I was in the mood for a thriller, but I also picked it after I was dared to read “christian fiction” when I commented that I avoid those (personal choice, after reading too many of those when I was a kid.) I don’t know how this fits the category, but it did won some prizes as a christian novel. I haven’t read “christian fiction” since I was a highschooler, so I’m curious to know whether I’ll enjoy this or not.

Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff : Non-fiction on Cleopatra’s life. Despite my fascination for Ancient Egypt, I don’t know much about Cleopatra. Sounds like a good one to correct that.

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner : Sequel to The Maze Runner which I read last year, and even though I didn’t enjoy it as most people seemed to, I’m very curious to see where this is going.

The Unidentified by Rae Mariz : Kid goes to a school where everything she does is monitored for market research. Interesting premise for a dystopia!

Have you read any of these?  What did you receive in your mailbox this week?
