Filling the Shelf – 25
Filling the Shelf is basically Mailbox Monday (created by The Printed Page, presently hosted by Knitting and Sundries) or In my Mailbox (created by The Story Siren ), but with a title that suits my blog 😀 If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, I invite you to visit those two awesome bloggers!
I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I’ve done a “Filling the Shelf” post. Life has gotten incredibly busy lately, but of course, that doesn’t keep a reader from getting books! Those aren’t the only ones I got, but they are the most recent. I’ve been loosing interest in YA novels a bit recently, and though I still read plenty of those, I noticed that I brought more adult novels home lately.
Spellwright by Blake Charlton : A world where magic spells are created by writing, with a young dyslexic man as the hero. A fun premise, looking forward to reading it!
Nights of Villjamur by Mark Charan Newton : This fantasy novel seems to pack a lot in : a mysterious killer, a coming ice age, a daughter inheriting after her father, the emperor, takes his own life, a conspiracy… whew! I’ve also been following the author’s blog for a while, and I’ve enjoyed his writing, so I had to get the book.
Three by Ted Dekker : A thriller where a man receives mysterious calls, asking him to confess his “sin”, yet he doesn’t know what it is… So, I was in the mood for a thriller, but I also picked it after I was dared to read “christian fiction” when I commented that I avoid those (personal choice, after reading too many of those when I was a kid.) I don’t know how this fits the category, but it did won some prizes as a christian novel. I haven’t read “christian fiction” since I was a highschooler, so I’m curious to know whether I’ll enjoy this or not.
Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff : Non-fiction on Cleopatra’s life. Despite my fascination for Ancient Egypt, I don’t know much about Cleopatra. Sounds like a good one to correct that.
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner : Sequel to The Maze Runner which I read last year, and even though I didn’t enjoy it as most people seemed to, I’m very curious to see where this is going.
The Unidentified by Rae Mariz : Kid goes to a school where everything she does is monitored for market research. Interesting premise for a dystopia!
Have you read any of these? What did you receive in your mailbox this week?
I picked up Cleopatra at the SIBA Trade Show in September and have been meaning to read it much sooner than now — thanks for the reminder!!
Ooh, Unidentified looks really interesting!!
I think Cleopatra sounds like a wonderful book. I’ve read a few historical novels about her but this sounds a tad more educational 🙂
thank you kindly for the shout out about Spellwright! hope the words come alive for you 🙂
You got a lot of great books! The ones that stand out to me are Cleopatra and The Unidentified.
Dekker is a good author and I enjoyed Three….have fun reading your new additions.
Interesting choice of books.. Cleopatra looks like a good read.. And I’m dying to get my hands The Scorch Trials..
The Unidentified was one of my favorites during dystopian August. I nommed it for a Cybil!
Coffee and a Book Chick : Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it, Cleopatra has always fascinated me!
Amanda : It does, doesn’t it? The idea is original, I thought.
Mary : It does sound a bit educational : I love the fiction, but it’s fun to know more about the facts, too.
Blake : Aw you’re welcome, I can’t wait to read it! It had been on my wishlist since it came out, I’m glad I finally got my own copy.
Kathy : Yes, I wish I had time to just sit and read them all at once! I’m reading The Unidentified right now, and I really enjoy it.
Staci : I’m so glad to hear that! I’m really intrigued by the story.
The Crooked bookshelf : I’m looking forward to reading The Scorch Trials too, but I hope I remember enough about The Maze Runner!
Lenore : I think you’re the one that made me add this book to my wishlist! I just started reading it and I really enjoy it so far.
Nights of Villjamur – I haven’t read pure fantasy in a while (although I do love it), and this one seems great
Thr3e by Ted Dekker : I have this on my TBR; have heard that it was very good.
The Scorch Trials by James Dashner : This AND The Maze Runner will be in my Christmas book box (I know I’m not the only one who buys myself presents!)
The Unidentified by Rae Mariz : This is on my wishlist, as all of the reviews I’ve read have been fab
Great bunch of books! Enjoy them all!
