Why August 31 will be the end of my wallet

While many readers – counting myself – are probably today enjoying getting their hands on Mockingjay (see previous post) and reading it all at once, August 31 is the date my wallet is fearing more than others. The number of books coming out on this date is astronomical, really, and the number of those I want almost as scary. I have here selected my top 6, starting with the ones I need on said date and ending with the ones I might, maybe, be able to wait a little for.

Here we go!

Empire, The Novel of Imperial Rome – Steven Saylor

I read and absolutely loved Roma in January 2009, and I was over the moon when I heard Steven Saylor would be writing a kind of continuation to it. Roma was a fantastic piece of historical fiction, spanning over centuries and generations of a group of families. Empire, if my understanding is correct, should pick up right where Roma left us, and give us Augustus, Nero, Caligula. I’m also imagining we’ll witness some volcanic action and the rise and persecution of Christianity. I just can’t wait!

The Way of Kings – Brandon Sanderson

In all honesty, I have read only one book by Sanderson (yet) and though I loved it (5 stars!), I never picked up anything by him ever since. Then why is it almost at the top of this Top 6? Because the Man of the House is a Sanderson fan and has read most of his books. I’m guessing he’ll like this one, too, and I love when we get to read the same books!

Clockwork Angel – Cassandra Clare

I read Clare’s trilogy The Mortal Intruments and really enjoyed it, so of course I want to know what she has in store next! Also, love the cover.

Ghost Moon – Heather Graham

Ghost Moon is the third in a trilogy I have only started now. It’s the kind of no-headache-paranormal I enjoy from time to time, and I’m guessing that, if not on August 31, I’ll be getting my hands on it soon enough!

Halo.jpg

Halo – Alexandra Adornetto

This began with pure cover lust, I admit it! But reading the first few reviews on this angel story made me curious about what’s under the cover, too.

Paranormalcy -Kiersten White

Again, I have been lusting after this cover ever since I saw it, and I am still curious to read it. Like Halo, the first few reviews have been mostly positive. In both cases though, I might wait to hear more about them before spending my dollars on them. With so many books, one has to make some hard choices!

Have you been waiting for one of these books, too? Which book(s) are you now waiting for the most?

  1. I am waiting for MockingJay (hopefully tomorrow), then this week I also ordered “It’s not summer without you” by Jenny Han, “How I live now” by Meg Rosoff, “the man of my dreams” by curtis sittenfeld, “Rampant” by Diana Peterfreund. Steven Saylor sounds interesting, since I started reading Michelle Moran I found myself more open towards historical fiction

  2. The only one of those I know is Clockwork Angel. I’ll be heading out in a few minutes for my copy of Mockingjay.

  3. Totally with you on the cover lust for Halo, an ARC of which has been sitting in my bookcase since early summer. Want to read it so badly!

  4. There are TONS of books coming out soon that I’m really looking forward to… Way of Kings and Mockingjay, of course, the sequel to The Magicians and Mrs. Quent, the sequel to Twilight of Avalon, the new Bloody Jack book, there’s a new Bartimaeus book by Jonathan Stroud coming soon, the new Scott Westerfeld Leviathan book (Behemoth, I think it’s called?), all sorts of things. Luckily, my wallet shouldn’t take *too* bad of a hit, since my library is very good about acquiring new books, and I am very good about making sure I wind up near the top of the holds list. 🙂

  5. Emily : I haven’t read Moran’s books yet, but what I love have Saylor was that he made the city the main character, in a beautiful way. There’s still plenty of drama and interesting characters, though! “It’s not summer without you” was incredibly good, I hope you enjoy it too!

Kathy : Haha, I got mine today too! I just couldn’t wait!

Meg : Oh! How could you resist it so long? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it!

Fyrefly : Well now you have me salivating even more! I have both The Magicians and Mrs. Quent and Twilight of Avalon in my TBR pile, I really need to get to them fast before their sequels are out! I didn’t even know The Magicians abd Mrs. Quent would have one. It’s good you have a great library though. Mine has new books quick, too, but the waiting lists are aweful!

  6. I think I’m going to have to give up eating that week so I can afford all the books I want lol 🙂

I think Paranormalcy is on the top of my list.
