Filling the Shelf – 8
“Filling the Shelf” is in fact a “In my mailbox” but with a title that suits my blog. Click here to see what others have received in their mailboxes!
The Rapture by Liz Jensen : I read the back of this book at the store and just knew I had to read it. The story, about a therapist who discovers her teenage’s patient talent to predict natural catastrophes, sounds really intriguing. I also think it will be a good change of pace for me, to have the adult as a narrator instead of the teenager! Plus, I enjoyed The Ninth Life of Louis Drax.
The Child Thief by Brom : I’m so glad this dark retelling of Peter Pan’s story is finally out! It’s a beautiful book, too, all white and heavy with a few illustrations made by the author/artist’s hand!
Recursion by Tony Ballantyne : I read a few pages of the second book in the series and I was curious about it. AI? Mysterious voices? Futuristic setting? Sounds like my kind of thing, and outside a few dystopian YA novels, I think I haven’t read any futuristic/sci-fi novels in a long time!
I have already read Never Cry Werewolf by Heather Davis and Give Up the Ghost by Megan Crewe, and reviews should come soonish. As for Liar, by Justine Larbalestier, I started reading it this morning (Monday) and so far it’s great! I’m glad to see there’s more to this book than its cover controversy!
I love the cover of Recursion! Intiguing book. I mght have to add this one to my wishlist.
If I’d have known you wanted The Child Thief, I would have sent it to you! I mailed my ARC copy off on Bookmooch…
looks like a bunch of goodies…my mailbox was a bit barren this week. 🙁 i’ve read about ‘never cry werewolf’ around the blogs but haven’t gotten around to getting copy yet–one day soon! looking forward to your review.
You had a great week! I love the cover of The Rapture!
O I’m jealous. I really want to read Give Up the Ghost and Never Cry Werewolf.
Question: Doesn’t the Rapture looks a little like Zooey Deschanel?
So many great books I want to read! 😀
Bella : I love the cover too, it’s the first thing that brought me to read a few pages of it. If you look at the other books in the series, the covers are similar too. I hope the book is as good as its cover!
Amanda : Ooh, you had an Arc? Did you read it? Was it good?
Nat : Mailboxes have their ups and downs, don’t they? Never Cry Werewolf was good enough, but I’ll be posting my review soon.
Kathy : I love it too!
Juju : They were both good read, especially Give up the Ghost! And it’s true the girl looks a little like Deschanel, but I would never have noticed on my own!
Ceri : There’s so many great books coming out this fall, it’s crazy! There’s still many more I want to read, too!
No, I didn’t read it. It honestly didn’t look that interesting to me. I picked it up for free at ALA on my first day. The pictures were lovely though. I liked the art. But the story itself didn’t look like I’d like it.
