Incoming Madness : The Summer Reading Blitz challenge

What?Summer Reading Blitz!

The “Summer Reading Blitz challenge”. I will try to read 30 books in 30 days.

Who?

This started as a personal challenge by Shauna at Reading and Ruminations, but as we all know, avid readers like to go crazy : the more challenges, the better! And when I heard of that challenge, I had to try it too.

When?

This is for the month of June, beginning today! (I can’t believe June is here already! What happened to the previous five months? Didn’t we just unwrapped our Christmas presents?)

How?

I was gonna be really “clever” and say “With my eyes”. But then I stopped and wondered, how much of the reading process can we attribute to the eyes, and how much to the brain? What about those who “read” audiobooks, or those who can’t see and read with their hands? So, I’ll just let go of my cleverness and talk about how, really, I’ll be trying to do it :

  • Shorter, lighter reads. I’m thinking 200-300 pages reads maximum. I have a few YA books that easily fit that category.
  • More french reading: I read fast in english, but I do even faster in french! And I really don’t read enough of original french books, so it sounds like a good idea to use that challenge to correct that.
  • I’m thinking of joining the Fourth Annual 48 Hour Book Challenge next weekend. This way, I could probably read a few more in the weekend, which would be more relax for the rest of the month.
  • I’m currently looking for a summer job, but I’m at that point where all resumes have been sent and I’m waiting for an answer. So once the cleaning and feeding is done, my schedule is pretty much free.
  • I’ll be trying to read more outside of the house; at the library, at coffee shops, in parks, etc. The weather is getting nicer, and it will allow me to be less distracted by the computer.
  • I will be keeping a link to this post in my sidebar, and I will gradually add here my list of books. This will allow you to cheer me up all through the challenge! You know you want to! 😀

On that note, let the madness begin!

  1. I’m so glad that others are going to join me in the madness. I can’t wait to see what you read!

  2. I joined the challenge also. I’ll be cheering you on. Good luck.

  3. I’ll be sure to cheer you on, but alas, I won’t be able to participate. As a science grad student, my summers are no different from the rest of the year, and even reading shorter books, I can’t commit to reading one book a day! Definitely madness, but I’ll be rooting for you!

  4. wow, that’s some undertaking! i’m doing 30 books from memorial day to labor day in my personal ‘off the deep end’ challenge and am having doubts about being able to finish by the deadline. good luck to you–i hope you can do it!

  5. Thanks all for the support! I finished my first book a little after midnight and jumped right into the next one.

Steph : I know what you mean, I have friends that are in their grad studies, too, and they have no break at all! It’s one of the reasons I plan on using the summer for reading so much; if I want to finish my undergrad studies in time and go to the next level, I’ll have to take six classes next fall and winter. I don’t think I’ll have much time left to read!

  6. Good luck! Reading outside of the house sounds like a great idea — when I have time, I love to sit in our local coffeeshop and just lose myself in a book for a while.
