Join Top Ten Tuesday at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week  a new Top Ten list theme is posted and all bloggers are welcome to participate!

Hello everyone! This week is a freebie, and I decided to list 10 of the books (let’s be honest, there’s more…) that have been waiting on my shelves for too long.

I always have the best intentions when I buy new books. I plan on reading every single one of them a.s.a.p., but because I’m such a mood reader, there’s always a few that end up waiting on a shelf. And now, some of them have been waiting for years! I feel it’s time I do something about this, so as I post this list, I’m making a commitment to read at least half of these before the end of the year. That should be doable, right?

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt (I’ve been intimidated by the size of it!)

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern (I’ve been intimidated by the massive hype!)

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hossein

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith (this should be a priority as it was actually on my “Books that have been sitting on my shelves for over a year, and that I want to read in 2012″… oops!)

The Lake House by Kate Morton

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith (same as I Capture the Castle, this has been waiting way too long!)

The Stone Sky by N. K. Jemisin (one of the most recent on this list; I love this series so much and I wasn’t ready to see it end!)

Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

All the Light We Cannot See by Andy Doerr

What are some books that have been waiting too long on your shelves?

  1. I started reading The Goldfinch a couple of years ago, maybe even three, but I had to set it aside because I had an avalanche of ARCs and I never picked it up again. I need to finish it, especially seeing that I was enjoying it. The Night Circus has been on my TBR forever, too! πŸ“š

    • The Goldfinch sounds exactly like my kind of book, but it really is a big one! I could imagine myself doing something similar. Hopefully we both get to read it soon πŸ™‚

  2. Good luck with your reading goal for these books! I hope you make it.

    My TTT.

    • Thank you! 5 books sounds reasonable to me, so hopefully I’ll get there!

  3. THe Night Circus is pretty good. The Kite Runner has been on my TBR for the longest time too. Hope you enjoy these once you read them!
    Great topic!

    • I really hope I love The Night Circus just as much as everyone seems to! Thank you for stopping by πŸ™‚

  4. A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is wonderful. It’s definitely a classic I’m glad I read!

    • It’s one I’m really looking forward to reading!

  5. I haven’t read a Kristen Hannah book in FOREVER. I heard a lot of good things about The Nightingale though!! Awesome list– we all have far too many books waiting for us I think!!

    • I’ve never read Kristen Hannah before but this one got a lot of praise. I’m looking forward to it even though it’s been on my shelf so long! Thanks for stopping by!

  6. I don’t even want to think about the books that have been on my shelves for too long. You’ve got some great titles on yours.

    • I try not to think about it too much either haha! Hopefully this list helps me read a few of them.

  7. You’ve got some great books waiting on those shelves of yours. I loved both The Kite Runner and The Night Circus. πŸ™‚

    • I’ve heard amazing things about both!

  8. Ooh, I really love some of these! A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Night Circus, Sorcerer to the Crown (especially on audio)! Silly fact: I associate all three of these books with a specific time of year – Christmas, October, and late summer, respectively. So if I were reading the three of them this year, those would be exactly when. πŸ˜€

    • If I remember correctly, you’re in fact the one who suggested A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to me when I was looking for some Christmas reading YEARS ago! I really need to read it. I’ll try to time my reading of these books with the season, they sound like good fits to me!

  9. I have some NK Jemisin tha have been waiting to be read for wayyyyy too long too haha

    • Do it! She’s talentful and has quite a unique style.

  10. I remember really liking I Capture the Castle, but I don’t remember anything about it.
I just donated a bunch of books that had been sitting on my shelves for too long. It just didn’t seem like I was going to get around to any of them.

    • I have been giving away a few of them too. I’m much more aware of what I really enjoy these days, so there are less “random” books on my shelves.

  11. The Nightingale is amazing, I hope you like it too! I keep hearing great things about N.K. Jemisins books, I really need to check them out!

    • I’ve heard so many amazing things about it! It sounds like it has all the ingredients for me to love it. And the N. K. Jemisi books are definitely worth it!
