New year, new books!

This week’s theme is the most anticipated releases for the first half of 2019, and let me tell you, picking only 10 was hard – so hard I’m in fact sharing with you a top 12 instead. But even with this small addition, there are still many more books I’m looking forward to in 2019, and probably even more I’m forgetting or not aware of.

This is mostly speculative fiction, surprisingly; I think I’ve read so many thrillers in the past couple years, that I’m feeling a bit burnt out on mysteries. But I’m sure I’ll read some great ones all the same.

Here we go!

Holy Sister by Mark Lawrence (April 4) : I read both Red Sister and Grey Sister in 2018, and both were among my favorite books of the year. To say I am looking forward to Holy Sister is quite the understatement!

The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden (January 10) : This third book in the Winternight trilogy is one I can’t wait to read, both for Katherine Arden’s delicious prose and her mesmerizing world.

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo (January 29) : I think I’d buy this book for the cover alone! But more Nikolai? Sure! I really enjoyed the Grisha series a few years ago, and remember Nikolai being a favorite character.

The Wicked King by Holly Black (January 8) : I was pleasantly surprised by The Cruel Prince, even though I usually don’t enjoy faerie books, so I’ll be reading book 2 a.s.a.p.!

The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh (January 8) : This book is described as “The Handmaid’s Tale meets The Virgin Suicides in this dystopic feminist revenge fantasy about three sisters on an isolated island”; all things I enjoy, so count me in.

The Candle and the Flame by Nafiza Azad (May 14) : The cover is gorgeous and the story sounds amazing – but mostly, I’ve been following Nafiza on blogs and social media for years and years, so this is definitely an essential read for me in 2019.

Teeth in the Mist by Dawn Kurtagich (June 11) : Dawn Kurtagich has an exquisite talent for horror; I loved both of her previous books I read, and this horror story told through three different centuries sounds like one not to miss.

Slayer by Kiersten White (January 8) : I didn’t know about this book until recently, and I got ridiculously excited about it. I loved Buffy and a book set in this favorite universe sounds amazing.

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (March 5) : I adored The Seven Husbands on Evelyn Hugo, I’m hoping the author can enchant me and break my little heart once more.

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne (January 29) : I feel like I’ve been waiting for this book forever. I adored The Hating Game and I’m hoping this one entertains me just as much.

Recursion by Blake Crouch (June 11) : Dark Matter was a ton of fun, and this one sounds like it will be just as unputdownable. The premise of False Memory Syndrome sounds quite fascinating!

Inspection by Josh Malerman (April 23) : Josh Malerman wrote one of my favorite books, Bird Box, so of course I want to read more from him. This one sounds like a mix of thriller and horror, exactly what I like to read.

What books are you looking forward to in 2019?

  1. Yes! You have soo many good choices and a few I’ve never seen. Will add a few of these to my list!

  2. I have an ARC of Daisy Jones and the Six sitting on my e-reader waiting to be read, I can’t wait to start it (but alas I have far too many other things I must read first)

  3. Oh I have so many of these added too! SO excited for Teeth in the Mist, King of Scars, and The Wicked King (apparently the year for all the kings?!) Here’s my TTT for this week!

  4. “The Water Cure” sounds like an incredible book. I’m going to be keeping an eye out for it!

This is my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  5. I hope you get to all of them. I’m particularly interested in Inspection.

  6. King of Scars was on my list this week too!

  8. King of Scars is on my list too! Happy reading. 🙂

  9. Winter of the Witch and Daisy Jones made my list too! And The Water Cure also looks really good!

  10. Going home to read The Wicked King soon! I have to read the Grisha Verse books because I don’t want to read King of Scars or Six of Crows until after I read that.
