RIP XIII – Let’s begin!
It’s no secret that fall is one of my two favorite seasons. I love the cooler weather, the colors, the ominous atmosphere. It’s the perfect season to read spooky thrillers and scary horror novels – and to join the Readers Imbibing Peril challenge!
But what is the Readers Imbibing Peril challenge – or RIP for short?
As per the website :
The purpose of the R.I.P. Challenge is to enjoy books that could be classified as:
Mystery.Suspense.Thriller.Dark Fantasy.Gothic.Horror.Supernatural.The emphasis is never on the word challenge, instead it is about coming together as a community and embracing the autumnal mood, whether the weather is cooperative where you live or not.The goals are simple.
1. Have fun reading.
2. Share that fun with others.
Learn more here – and of course, join us!
I’m doing Peril the First (4 books), which feels right to me since I already read a lot of dark books that would fit the challenge. Here’s my list of potential reads (though I might add and replace books along the way!)
- The Alienist by Caleb Carr
- Diary of a Haunting by M. Verano
- Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl
- An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena
- The Broken Girls by Simon St. James
- The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
- Hex by Thomas Heuvelt
- The Hunger by Alma Katsu
- The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
- The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware
- The Cheerleaders by Kara Thomas
- The Secret History by Donna Tart
Let the fun begin!
