Review : The Last Star by Rick Yancey
The Last Star by Rick Yancey
Pages : 338
Genre : YA, Speculative Fiction
Series : The 5th Wave, book 3
My Rating : 2.5/5
About the Book :
They’re down here, they’re up there, they’re nowhere. They want the Earth, they want us to have it. They came to wipe us out, they came to save us.
But beneath these riddles lies one truth: Cassie has been betrayed. So has Ringer. Zombie. Nugget. And all 7.5 billion people who used to live on our planet. Betrayed first by the Others, and now by ourselves.
In these last days, Earth’s remaining survivors will need to decide what’s more important: saving themselves…or saving what makes us human.
My Thoughts :
This will be short, as to not spoil readers wanting to be surprised. I also have little to say, but since I reviewed the previous books, I want to conclude it all properly!
Earlier in 2016, I read and really enjoyed The 5th Wave. I loved the narration, the survival adventure, the writing. I was eager to get into The Infinite Sea, which I also liked, though not as much.
I went into The Last Star with some expectations, but I was sure I was in for a gripping adventure and a few fun twists. Unfortunately, I was surprised to find that very little about this series conclusion kept me reading. I pushed through it because it was the conclusion, and it took me months of picking it up, reading a few chapters, then putting it aside, before I finally got through it.
The writing was still good, and for this reason I’d be willing to read something else by Rick Yancey. But I disliked who most of the characters had become. I didn’t like how the story twisted, and I found the ending to be predictable rather than shocking.
All in all, I’ll always be fond of the first book, but I don’t think the rest of the series was a good fit for me.
Series Reading Order :
- The 5th Wave
- The Infinite Sea
- The Last Star
Aw, it’s kind of sad to see this series end on a down note.
