to all the boys ive loved beforeP.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
Pages : 337
Genre : YA, Contemporary, Romance
Series : To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, book 2
My Rating : 3/5

About the Book  :

Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter. She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever. When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?

My Thoughts :

I’ve made no secret of my love for Jenny Han in the past few years, which is why I’d kept P.S I Still Love You preciously on my shelf, waiting to be just in the right mood for it. Like its predecessor, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, this book is a cute contemporary novel with lots of charm and romance.

The first thing I noticed was that a lot of what felt off in the first book was still there; some scenes feel disjointed, the story doesn’t always have a clear direction. The boy from Lara Jean’s past mentioned in the summary? He doesn’t show up until the middle of the book. Before that, there’s a whole other drama involving a private moment of Lara Jean that is filmed and then shared on public media. It takes some time before it all comes together.

But there are things Jenny Han always seem to do well – as she does here. She writes first loves and all the feelings that come with it perfectly and very naturally, in a way that brought me back to my teen years. The questions Lara Jean asks are so genuine and realistic! She also writes family and relationships with a complexity that rings true.

I don’t know what to say about the ending though. If this were real life, I’d expect it; in a novel, I was waiting for more. I wanted Lara Jean to stand for herself. I also felt like this book sort of broke the romantic illusion of the first – which, again, is very realistic, but not very charming.

In the end, P.S. I Still Love You was a lovely book with plenty of charming moments, written in a simplistic style that I absolute adore. While it had its weaknesses, it certainly won’t keep me from reading more from Jenny Han in the future. I still love her unique way of writing the turmoil of emotions that are the teenage years!

  1. It sounds like Han writes well but the book could have been edited better.

    • That could be the case! I do really enjoy Han’s writing.

  2. Gah I still need to read this!! I thought To All the Boys was adorable, so I was eagerly awaiting this sequel… but like you said, I wanted to be in the just right mood!! And now I’ve gone and forgot about it!! Must pick this up soon, before I forget all the good moments from the first book!

    • Jenny Han definitely knows how to write the cute! I hope you enjoy this one too; while it wasn’t a favorite it had great moments!
