Filling the Shelf – 154

Filling the Shelf simply is Mailbox Monday, but with a title that suits my blog! If you’re interested in joining the fun or seeing what other bloggers added to their shelves, click away! (but beware, visiting other mailboxes will probably add to your neverending wishlist!)

Happy Sunday readers!

Yesterday was my birthday and to celebrate surviving to this day, the Man got me a bunch of books this week (except for California, which was an almost unexpected galley I finally got accepted for, after thinking I had lost my chance!) I am excited in different ways for all of these. They’re all so different from each other, yet I can’t wait to read each of them!

In fact, Isla was a long time coming and, like many other readers, I couldn’t wait to put my hands on it! So it’s already been read and it was super cute, as expected!

What books did you recently add to your shelves?

Birthday!

To celebrate my birthday yesterday, the Man and I went on a one-day trip to Magog, a small town located about an hour and a half from home. The weather was gorgeous! We had a few sweets in a nice chocolaterie and I brought back home a pot of caramel fleur de sel.

We walked a bit around the Memphremagog lake, staying on Canadian land – though I’d love to get on the Vermont side of it one day, just out of curiosity!)Sadly, its monster Memphre never showed up.

Come on, Memphre; not even on my birthday? Pfffft.

  1. Happy birthday! Reading this post makes me want to go to a bookstore! I hope you love Isla!

    • Thank you! 😀
I did love Isla! Not my favorite though, but it was a cute conclusion to the series!

  2. Paris Letter looks like a very beautiful cover. I hope you had a good birthday!

    • I had, thanks! 😀
And I agree, the cover is super cute. Can’t wait to read it!

  3. OMG I’ve been there. To Memphremagog. On my honeymoon actually. I had no idea there was a monster. Wow. We flew into Burlington Vermont and drove up into some tiny towns in Quebec. We loved it.

Happy belated birthday my fellow Leo. You are a Leo right?

    • OMG, that’s so fun! I’m glad to hear you loved it! It’s actually not too far from Montreal but it was our first time visiting Magog and the lake and we both loved it. Will certainly go back!
And we are planning on also going to Burlington this weekend, it’s been a while since we visited!

And thank you for the wishes! Yes, I usually am a Leo, although sometimes my date is scrunched with the Virgos. I’d rather be Leo though 🙂

  4. Happy birthday! Hope it was enjoyable and you had plenty of time for reading 🙂

    • Thank you! 😀
It was and I had! Couldn’t ask for more!

  5. Happy Birthday! What a great way to celebrate 🙂
Your new books look good – and the cover on Nobody is Ever Missing really made me stop and take a second look!

    • Thank you!
This cover really drew me in, too. Can’t wait to read this one!

  6. Hi Kay,

Best Wishes for a belated Happy Birthday and I am pleased that you had such a lovely birthday treat.

I love that your monster has a name, ‘Memphre’ sounds so alluring, much friendlier than ‘The Loch Ness Monster’, which is our own UK equivalent …

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loch_Ness_Monster

Whilst hubbie would be more than willing to take me to the bookshop and let me have a free run of it as part of a birthday treat, I am pretty certain that without a specific wish list from me, he wouldn’t dream of trying to choose anything for me, so the Man did you proud with that selection.

The one which really caught my eye is ‘Nobody Is Ever Missing’. Such a strong and demanding storyline for a debut novel, this one seems to be a great hit with reviewers.

I hope that you enjoy all your books and those scrummy looking choclates!

    Yvonne

    • Hello Yvonne!

      Thank you for the wishes!
I agree that Memphre sounds a little friendlier, though I am sad there isn’t more history and “facts” to find about him. Still a great little piece of our mythology though! I’d love to visit the Loch Ness though; have you ever been?

And not to take away any credit from the Man of the House, but I did give him a precise list. It was the equivalent of a bookstore raid, but on the internet.

Thank you so much for stopping by! 🙂

      • Hi Kay,

I have to confess that we have visited The States, more often than we have Scotland, which is quite sad, when we have some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, right on our doorstep almost.

We did get to Loch Ness on our week long trip, although we actually stayed a little distance away, in a castle, in The Trossachs area of central Scotland.

True to form however, we only had one dry day in the entire week and that wasn’t the day we chose to visit the Loch, so misty and murky conditions meant that we didn’t get to say Hi! to ‘Nessie’.

Ah! Now that you have ‘fessed up’ and admitted that you provided The Man with an exact list of the books you wanted, everything becomes much clearer …. Men work so much better when they have a list of instructions! …. LOl!

I hope that you are enjoying your new reads if you have got around to starting on any of them yet.

  7. Happy birthday! My youngest son had a birthday on Sunday….and your celebration sounds wonderful!

I am eager to read my copy of California….and I’m curious about Nobody is Ever Missing.

Enjoy your week…and thanks for visiting my blog.
