About the Book  :

When twins Sheridan and Taylor wake up 400 years in the future, they find a changed world: domed cities, no animals, and a language that’s so different, it barely sounds like English. And the worst news: They can’t go back home.

The twenty-fifth-century government transported the girls to their city hoping to find a famous scientist to help perfect a devastating new weapon. The same government has implanted tracking devices in the citizens, limiting and examining everything they do. Taylor and Sheridan have to find a way out of the city before the government discovers their secrets. To complicate matters, the moblike Dakine has interest in getting hold of them too. The only way for the girls to elude their pursuers is to put their trust in Echo, a guy with secrets of his own. The trio must put their faith in the unknown to make a harrowing escape into the wilds beyond the city.

My Thoughts :

I would describe the genre of Erasing Time as “sci-light” or “aesthetic science-fiction”. It’s a novel where science is explained but roughly, where people wear crazy colorful outfits and where technology has “cool” written all over it. All of this, by itself, isn’t a bad thing; in fact, as a reader who can barely differentiate science from magic, a cool, fun and entertaining world-building is all I need, even when the science is nonsensical. From this point of view, I was really entertained by the future of Erasing Time.

My problem with it came more from the story. I felt the surprise twists were predictable, but more importantly, I couldn’t get on board with Sheridan and Echo’s insta-love! It felt way too much, way too quickly, and I didn’t believe it for one second. Fortunately Sheridan did have some doubts about him, so she didn’t completely lost all her senses over him, but it was too little too late.

I also wished the story would have focused more on Taylor rather than Sheridan, who was more of your typical English lit student. I felt like genius scientific Taylor would have been a more intriguing and original character, but oh well. I think maybe in the sequel she might be the focus?

All in all, Erasing Time wasn’t bad; it was just okay for me, but I am sure other readers will enjoy the time travel and the colorful future it has to offer! I have yet to decide whether I’ll read the sequel or not…

Series reading order :

  1. Erasing Time
  2. Echo in Time
