Joining The Domealong – Reading Under the Dome by Stephen King

Posted by on May 25, 2013 5:41 pm in Book talk | 8 comments

One of my favorite memories from last summer was my participation to the Standalong, a reading marathon of Stephen King’s The Stand. I had been putting it off for so long, and reading it with a group of readers was exactly what I needed for motivation. I ended up flying through it, chatting about it on blogs and twitter, writing a very positive review of it and I was looking forward to joining another similar experience.

There was the It-along, but I don’t do clowns. Murders, monsters, demons, gore, yes; clowns, nope nope nope!

Which is why I was so excited when I discovered this this morning :

Under the Dome rounded with text

A readalong for Under the Dome by Stephen King!!!

(let’s hope it’s clownfree)

I bought my copy of Under the Dome when it came out… that is, on fall 2009. That’s how long it’s been sitting on my shelves. Yikes, I know! But it’s just. so. huge! Over 1000 pages. That takes real commitment, and I can be sort of commitmentphobic when it comes to huge books, even though I do love them.

But today, I re-opened three packed boxes of books to find my copy. And good news, I did!

Not only does it sound awesome, it also has an amazing cover. I absolutely adore it. And all of this is even more amazing with the mini-series coming this June! Personally, I plan on reading, then watching the show on my DVR.

So, what’s the deal with this domealong thing, you ask?

The readalong lasts from May 25 to July 27. You can read it as quickly or slowly as you can, and post on you blog as often or as rarely about it as you wish. And hey, you don’t even need a blog to join! How awesome is that? Discuss the book with other readers on twitter by using the #domealong tag. And don’t forget to have fun!

Click here or on the banner at the top of the post to join officially or learn more about the event!

Have you read Under the Dome? Are on planning on joining the readalong?

  1. Good luck! I considered joining in but I just finished a chunskter… Break time!

  2. Wow! I had absolutely no clue about this until I stumbled upon your blog! I’m a huge Stephen King fan, and I really want to read this before the mini-series. I’m so torn though. To read or not? This does sound like a lot of fun…and I already have a copy! I might have to join in! Thanks for the heads up! 😀 Love your blog!

  3. We can do it…I’m not so much daunted by the size…I read long (400-800 pgs) books regularly, but by the fact that I had tried King in the past and failed. But I think this readalong is just the thing!

  4. I have the e-book of this one so your copy looks GIGANTIC!! 🙂 Glad you’re joining us and I hope that you enjoy. I started it a few days ago and only read 2% (I don’t want to know how few pages that is…) and it reminds me a bit of The Stand in feel. Yay!

IT was ridiculously scary but SO GOOD. I don’t think I could have persevered without the readalong though…

    • I have heard a few people saying it reminded them of The Stand. That makes me even more excited to start it! I have a few galleys to read a.s.a.p. first, but then I’ll start on this one.
I’m still too scared to try IT haha!

  5. I have the soft cover version with the earlier cover, and I like yours much better! But, I don’t know if I could do hardcover, I’m sure it would break my back in half! I’m so excited to read this with everyone; I’m already 450 pages in and cannot put it down. You’ll get sucked in! 🙂

    • The hardcover really IS heavy. It’s really not purse-friendly haha!
And wow, you got into it quickly! Glad to hear you are enjoying it so far, I can’t wait to start it too!

  6. i love this book. I read it when it first came out. I have also listened to the audiobook like 3 times. Both formats are great. One of my favorite parts (and i know how weird it sounds) is the woodchuck. “What happened?” That is just priceless…
