Catching up to 2013 : a project of some sort

While writing my post for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday, one thing was made clear to me : I had a lot of catching up to do if I didn’t want to be left behind come January1st!

I said it on my first day of high school, and it is still true to this day; each year seems to go faster than the precedent. Every year, when we celebrate the New Year, I remember all the things I had planned to do in the past twelve months, without achieving success. This includes books that I absolutely wanted to read, but didn’t get to.

With this in mind, I made a short list of books I plan on reading in December 2012. Hopefully, focusing the last month of the year on these books will help me catch up! Maybe I’ll be able to read the sequels when they come out, with everyone else! Maybe they’ll let me hang out with the cool kids again!

Okay, probably not.

But still, I really want to give a good kick to that TBR pile and see it get a little smaller by the time 2013 knocks on my door.

Catching up to 2013 part the first : The Sequels

Sequels to books I read in 2011 and enjoyed. At least three of these books will be followed by a third book in 2013. Time to hurry!

  1. Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
  2. Fever by Lauren DeStefano
  3. Insurgent by Veronica Roth
  4. Thumped by Megan McCafferty
  5. Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor

Catching up to 2013 part the second : The First in a Series

Every time I’m thinking “Good! Done with this series!” another one comes out. These all have sequels to be published in 2013, of course!

  1. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
  2. The Forsaken by Lisa M. Stasse
  3. Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris
  4. Grave Mercy by R. L. LaFevers
  5. Partials by Dan Wells

Catching up to 2013 part the third : The “I Need Some More Variety!” (added December 9th)

Because, why not? As long as I read!

  1. Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin
  2. Everneath by Brodi Ashton
  3. Cinder by Marissa Meyer
  4. Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard

I’m more of a realistic person so I know I’m not getting through all of this in a single month! With all the celebrations, a couple galleys left to read, and the lack of variety this pile of books offers (hello, dystopia!), I’ll feel accomplished if I manage to read at least 4 of these books – 2 per category, maybe?

What would be on your list, dear readers? Which book do you wish you had read this year – or plan on squeezing in the last mile of 2012?

  1. I plan on reading Unraveling soon and I need to read Days of Blood & Starlight as well as Insurgent. Oh, and Under the Neversky has been sitting on my shelf for quite a while now and I need to read it asap. Hope you’ll read all of them, cause I can’t wait to read your thoughts on them:)

  2. I’m pretty happy with the books I read so far in 2012 and I’m pretty happy with how my TBR pile looks like, so I can’t complain about anything. 🙂 In the next month I just plan to go on with reading the books that have been in my TBR pile for the longest time and then everything is good.

  3. Hi! I know how you feel about having a long list of books you want to read, believe me, I know, I
have 4 front pages and back size 11 font! I’m currently reading the biography of Walter Disney which I just picked up today, its not particularly going to be a light read but its worth it because I just love Disney!;) I’m going to be posting a reviews as I read it on my website. I have just started my blog so I hope you can support me as I support yours. 🙂 Thanks x

  4. Under the Never Sky is seriously Amazing! But you have some really great reads on your TBR pile. The only one I was a little disappointed with was Fever. I’m also DYING to read The Foresaken. I need to get that book for sure. Awesome picks!

  5. Series and sequels are the bane of my reading existence. I’ve been halfway through Mockingjay for about five months and have started so many series only to have read the first book. :-/ I am interested in the Smoke & Bone series, though! Have heard such a great things.

    Good luck with catching up!

  6. I also make goals for myself. I’m still thinking about doing something with books on my shelves, but so far I’m going to participate in 2 reading challenges in 2013 to make it interesting 🙂 This month is a free-month, because I already met my GR challenge. You have some great titles waiting for you and I hope you can manage to read everything!

  7. Oooh, I’m so glad that you’re reading Masque of the Red Death. I finished that one last weekend (still have no review written!) and I devoured it. I didn’t even mind the weird two boy thing because it didn’t REALLY turn into a love triangle – of course it set itself up for one. But still, the characters and their motivation were so right on and believable.
