Comic : No Such Thing

To be honest, I’m fine with packing my books myself; the Man doesn’t understand the system. Only those who understand and respect the system are allowed to help.

  1. I love it and can relate to the system because my man doesn’t understand my system either.

    • Ha, thanks! 🙂 I’ve let him help packing the last bookshelf and there were a lot of eye-rolling on both our parts. We still had some fun, but he is NOT allowed to help place them back on the shelves!

  2. I have been allowed! I have been allowed! 😀 !!!

    • Yes you have! Et merci beaucoup! 😀

  3. We moved house in June and I would not let my boyfriend touch the books. They had to be packed just ‘so’!! I came home from work one day to find he had organised the bookcase into a ‘better’ system. I was not happy – all my babies had been renegated to the bottom of the bookcase because I was shorter than him. Of course I reorganised it back into my system and it looks so much nicer now!!!

    • Nooo! I would NOT have been happy, either. Glad to hear you put everything back in order; you simply don’t mess with a booklover’s system!

  4. My husband thinks it’s grand to tell me the title of a book that he sees around the house, and then have me tell him exactly where it is. It’s like a party trick. And that is because I KNOW THE SYSTEM!! I totally get you.

    • Oh, that had me laughing! Thanks to the system, I can also perform the same trick; I can also say either where/when I got a book, or where/when I read it. I’m not sure why I can keep track of such thing so easily, but can’t remember where I left my keys!

  5. Amen. I always pack the books. Mr. Whimsy knows better. 😉 Good luck darling!

My best advice: More smaller boxes is better than less and bigger. Because come moving time, the bigger book boxes are impossibly heavy.

    • Thank you! We tried to make the boxes as small as possible, but we had to put some bigger books in bigger boxes. We put lighter stuff with them, but some of them are still very heavy!

  6. I have an absurd number of books, but, alas, no system. It is complete chaos.

    • The Man here has no system either. He just piles books where they fit. Then I go after him and organize everything. 😛

  7. Exactly! The system allows us to unpack and organize so much more easily. I never let him touch them while packing and unpacking, but he gets to carry all the boxes, haha.

    • Yes! I’ve kept all the books from a same series or of similar sizes together, so that when we arrive, we can simply unpack them and place them where they fit without it being a puzzle. And yes, he will be carrying the boxes! Hehe!

  8. This is why I’m so very grateful my employer is paying for our upcoming move. I don’t have to pack squat.

    • Oh, I’m a tad envious! Though I don’t really mind packing my books, I would LOVE having someone else packing all of our things!
How is your move going? Have you found a place? In any case, good luck with things! 🙂

  9. People don’t understand the system! My family thinks I’m crazy but I know better. 😉

    • Haha! That’s pretty much what my family and friends think, too.

  10. Lol! Would love to hear what your system is.

    • In short; series are kept together, as are books of a same author if possible. Books of the same format (trade paperback, mass market, etc.) kept together, too. Then by genre. It’s… maybe a tad obsessive? Lol, I don’t know, but I almost always know where my books are.

  11. Honestly, I hate packing books!! This is why I keep very few, and get most from the library. 😀

    • That’s a good way to do things! I don’t mind packing them too much, to be honest; much less than clothes, dishes and other things. But I’ll have even more fun filling the shelves again in our new place!

  12. Pwahaha. So true! I got a workout when we moved. I had about forty boxes to carry up the stairs from the moving van. My arms and back ached but it was so worth it.

  13. You can’t mess with the system.
